Hey everyone! So this is my first question on here, and I'm really looking forward to hearing everyone's advice.

I'm a Canadian student in my second year of an undergraduate degree and I'm really really interested in going into dental. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until after I had royally screwed up my grades. I ended up with my GPA being about 2.8. What really brought my marks down was how poorly I did in my introductory chemistry classes. I got a C- and a C ... Sometime in the middle of my first semester of second year is when I decided I wanted to go into dental. So I worked harder and was able to get a GPA of 3.4. Now I'm in my second semester of second year and I'm stressing out about some things. First, are my introductory chemistry class grades going to effect my chances of getting into dental school? Second, I don't really have a lot of extracurriculars and I haven't gotten around to shadowing a dentist yet. Do I still have time to get some EC's in? Currently I'm only volunteering with some campus events that are held by the Stollery Children's Hospital Committee at my university and I'm going on a 2-week volunteer trip to South America in the summer. I'm feeling really anxious and I feel like I'm going to have to get 4.0's in both remaining years to even stand a little bit of a chance..

lmao. ur so fine it makes me laugh lol. just retake the chemistries whenever you want, but u brought it up to 3.4 and ur only in ur second year. U are 150% fine. I had to climb 1 year to make up for 3 bad years.. ur stressing urself for no reason and way early.

I am Canadian. I got 2.9 after my first year, also got a C- in Organic Chemistry, a C in Physics. I ended up having to retake Organic Chem at a different university, but in the end I turned out fine. SQUIRREL!

do you mean you got into dental school, or raised your GPA to +3.3?

You are going to be fine! Just keep that strong upward trend going. People get in to DS even after failing classes (obviously try not to do this, but it does happen!).

It's my understanding that some schools will not accept a C- in any course, especially a prereq like chemistry. You may need to retake the class if that's the case. Check out the required courses of a few dental schools and give them a call if the info isn't posted on their website.

thanks for the replies everyone! Yeah I know I shouldn't worry too much, but I'm worried that C- in my chemistry will be a problem. I just hated that class so much, retaking it just something I'm dreading 🙁
