Hello everyone I am a sophmore in undergraduate. I was wondering if someone gets two W's how that will negatively impact their application. what if you make up with a good GPA and DAT. Do they still have a chance for Schools such as UCLA, UCSF, UOP etc.

At this point there is nothing that you can do but Keep a High GPA + rock the DAT... There are several variables that go into an application, a W or 2 is not going to kill your chances (obviously won't help), especially if it is early on in your academic career.👍

You haven't lost much yet, a W is better than getting a failing grade. Come up with good excuse when asked during school interview process.

I withdrew from an entire semester of classes as a freshman (5 w's) and got 1 additional W a few yrs later.

Be prepared to talk about it in interviews (along with any grade/semester you've ever received).

You still have a good chance as long as you do well on everything else. It isn't nearly the end. There are so many factors a school uses to select an applicant and the W shouldn't even hurt your gpa. Just do well in all other areas and I think they will forget about that little W when they see everything else you've done (Im assuming this is the only problem). I mean, if you were on admissions and you had this great candidate and the only thing against him was a W wouldn't you look past it? In research they refer to it as the "outlier" and they would throw it out.

So, no worries. Do your best from now on, that's all you can do. Don't dwell on things you can do nothing about. If you want to be a dentist then keep pressing and don't let that get you down. Don't ask yourself, "do I have a chance," everyone has a "chance." Ask yourself, what can you do better to increase the probability of your chances. Good luck ^_^

Got into UCSF and couple of other schools with two W's (one in physics), went to six interviews and was never asked about the W's (I had a very high science GPA with tones of science courses and also a 24TS on the DAT). Just work hard and make sure to do well from this point on and you will be fine. Good luck to you.

I have had like 15 Ws on my transcript as a result of switching classes in the first week of the semester (Some elective classes would have finals clashing with my science classes). Only one W in sciences though - Histology (The final date clashed with an important family event that I couldnt miss) so I had to withdraw. My Gpa was high overall with 16-18 credits taken each sem. No one asked me in the interviews about W...they were more interested in the PS I wrote..
