hey everyone, i'm a senior biology major right now and going to graduate in may with about a 3.4 overall and a 3.3ish science gpa. i took the dat this past summer and didn't do so hot so i'm planning on taking them again sometime in the spring (enrolled in the orgoman class which starts next month). however, i have no idea what i should do during my year off. given that my gpa is good enough to get into some schools, yet still not amazing, should i take some post-bacc classes or should i just try to get a job and expand my resume?

thanks in advance.

i would...work ~ and take two classes or 1. Your gpa is definitely competitive but ya know why not try and make it even better especially with how competitive dental school is too...It just keeps getting more and more competitive and you want to give yourself the best shot especially not the off chance your DAT isn't as high as you want it! Take a course that will be in your first year of dental school like microbio, biochem, immuno

If you have a couple hundred dollars to spare, take a pre-dental simulation course, waxing course, denture course, or radiology course. There's also a lot more predents can do. If there is a community college that offers dental assisting courses, take the ones that are classified as dental science. I actually did sim course, dental assisting course and a radiology course and it really highlighted my application. Otherwise a lot of dental students recommend enjoying your time before you start dental school by going places and doing things you want to do.

i plan to work and save up money to pay for my tuition.

i am in a similar situation similar GPAs my DAT was a 19 and I've already applied to some schools unfortunately it was a bit late (Nov. 11) so I'm not too sure if I'll be accepted (although I pray I am! 🙂 ) but anyways in the event that i'm not accepted i do plan on reapplying this upcoming summer and to improve my chances i will :
apply early (obviously)
retake the DAT (get it up in the 20s)
possibly work at a dental office, i've had a job since i started college so i'm no stranger to working, but i would prefer working there as opposed to some of the jobs i've had.
maybe take a couple classes, couldn't hurt to boost my GPA a bit (although by May i'm confident that it will be more competitive)
since i've had a ton of EC's in college I will focus on more shadowing probably.

hope that helped some & good luck to you !
