Hi, I am scheduled an interview soon, but I have to check out of my hotel right before I leave to the interview. What do you guys suggest I do with my suitcase? Is it better to leave it at the hotel or can I store it somewhere at the school? I have a flight that leaves at 6:30 when my interview ends by the latest at 4:30. The airport is 15 minutes away.

Ask the admissions office whether you can store your luggage at their office. Usually they should have a place for storage, but it depends on the school.

I would go ahead and say it's safe to say that every school will do this for you without exception.

If they didn't, I would walk away from the interview.

Check with the hotel concierge. Most hotels will store luggage for guests who have later flights etc. You can always ask for a late checkout too. The worst thing to do is to drag a suitcase to the interview. The admissions office is not your personal luggage storage place and it looks cheap. Most hotels will provide this service for a few hours. If not, don't stay there.

On any given day at our med school, there are a half dozen suitcases piled in the corner of the secretary's office. Several other schools I interviewed at even had specific closets where they locked up peoples' bags for them. It's no big deal.

no hotel in the world is going to let you check out at 4:30 without paying extra so that's completely out of the question

if your hotel is close to the school and you can get back there easily after your interview then leave it with the hotel...all hotels allow for this. if it's not then bring it with you to the interview..the worst that could happen is you leave it in a corner at the admissions office...though i would say every admissions office expects at least some people to show up with luggage.

That's a great idea if you're staying at a hotel, but I think a lot of interviewees stay with students or friends. It just may not be feasible to keep luggage stored at someone's home and retrieve it later with tight schedules and access issues.

I brought luggage on several interviews, because I didn't have another choice. Most schools will have a room where you can lock it or leave it for the day.

You would refuse to interview at a school that can't store your luggage?

Prediction: This guy will walk into the interviews with "DOUCHEBAG" written on his forehead. If you see him, post here.

Hey, dude, good luck this cycle!!!

That's good to know.

At my school, students bringing their suitcases with them to the admissions office is such a regular occurrence that there is a dedicated closet to store them in. I've never heard of an admissions office begrudging storing luggage for interviewees. If any schools actually do that, THEY are the ones who look cheap.

Exactly.

You have made it to the interview with your hard work and stellar MCAT/GPA scores.

Do you think such a tiny thing will factor into whether or not you are accepted at a school? Is the receptionist going to tell on you to the adcom that this student left his luggage in the office so he/she will not make a good doctor?

Most hotels are aware of these things and will let you store your stuff. Schools are also aware that people have to make flights and will let you stow it somewhere

Medical school interviews; residency interviews, fellowship interviews and job interviews with never a need to drag a suitcase with me. Every hotel has allowed me to store a suitcase until the interview is over and most know that interviews run later than checkout time. More than half have honored a late checkout without additional fees. It looks cheap and unpolished to drag a suitcase to an interview (any interview). This I learned as a teenager.

LOL?

If a school can't be accommodating enough to take care of a suitcase for you, then what does that say about the school? Med school interviews are scheduled during the week when you have other commitments, such as exams, other interviews, etc. Sometimes you may have to take a 5 am flight and get there right at 8 am with no time to find suitcase storage. Other times you may need to leave immediately after the interview without time to pick up your suitcase form somewhere else.

The med school interview is not just about them judging you. This may be your only chance to see the school before you make a decision, so you are responsible for judging them as well to see if you would like to go there. Granted, this is secondary if you aren't accepted anywhere yet, but it's important. Back when I apllied, i didn't have the opportunity to go 2nd look at any of the schools, and my decision was based purely on my interview experience.

If a school can't take care of your suitcase, what does that say of the program.

Furthermore, I already go to med school, so I have no need to apply this cycle.

Airports have lockers. Since yours is 15 minutes away, I think it would be best to store it there. It's one less thing to worry about. You should step onto campus without any other hassles, that way you are clear-headed for the interview. Don't expect the medical schools to baby you. They are not there to store little Johnny's luggage because he is Mr. Special who thinks he is entitled to a red carpet treatment.

He needs the stuff for the day of the interview <.< I'm not sure if he'd go to the airport just to lock something and then come back. That would also look kind of fishy to security guards. *oop, looks something and walks out of airport*

Totally post-9/11 taboooooooooooo.
