Hello Everyone.

I have taken all the pre-requisites but in both physics and the organic chemistry courses I received a grade of D. My GPA is around 3.0 but my last two years I have had averages in the 86% range. I am aware this might get me into a Canadian school, but I really have in mind to go the states.

I am terrified to take these courses over again. Must I re-take them, or do people manage to still get into dental school despite the low grade in Pre-req courses. Does Boston, Temple, or Case require students to just pass these courses?

Again, I have taken many science courses over the years with A's but in my first two years of University I was slacking a tad. I am now in my last year (5th year) and worried a bit.

Please help
Jaba

I'm pretty sure that if you get a C- or below, you have not met the prereq. The upside is when you retake it you have an opportunity to score well and prove yourself. Do something different this time when you take those classes maybe. Get a tutor, join a study group, or put in more time.

I think you might be right about this. Does anyone else know this? I know that is true for some schools, but what about BU, or NYU etc (some of the private schools).?

just to let you know, a GPA of 3.0 and 86% in your last 2 years won't get you into ANY Canadian school, especially since the spots available for international students are less than 10% of the seats.

i'm not trying to be a jerk or condescending in any way, just letting you know from my personal experience. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and my prereq GPA for most Canadian schools is over 3.7 and I doubt I'll get into any Canadian school.

EDIT: woops, didn't notice u were a Canadian applicant, please disregard this post, sorry.

I don't think any school, private or public, would accept a D in a pre-req. It's practically a failure.
