Hello everyone,

I was just wondering what i can do to get into dental school anywhere...

My GPA is 2.8
And my Dat scores are
RC 18
B 17
C 18
OC 16
total 17
PAT 21


I applied a little late last year octoberish...

I have very good extracurriculars
I also have finished my Bac & and am in the process of getting a post-bac...

Any help would be great.

If you don't mind, can you tell us how many schools you applied to and did you get a fair amount of extra curriculars. Getting more shadowing/assisting hours always helps.

Not that many people get 21+ on PAT these days, gj.

gpa wont be the bottleneck. however your dat might. schools do not want to see 17s and below with a sub 3.0 gpa. get them up. you need at least a 20 for your AA and 17s or more on all sections. your post-bac will help. applying late is was also a bad idea.

I would say the DAT again and get a 20+ because as others said GPA is a little low. From what I have seen D-schools let all the factors balance out so a good DAT and your ECs fix the GPA.

your only option is to do well on the DAT. i was in the same boat. 2.8 gpa, i really slacked off all throughout college but always got A's in science classes. i rocked a 20 on the dat. thats what got me in. lots of dentists get rejected. just don't give up hope. if you are serious it will show. just remember to always keep everything on an upward trend. and trust me, once you get in you will be glad you had fun in college. but the waiting part sucks... it took me 3 tries.

I have a ton of extra circulars...

I am definatly retaking the DAT,

and my marks defiantly have an upwards trend...

i was wondering would i be placed in a different applicate pool if I am a Canadian ???

Are you Canadian? If you are, I would think that you are screwed. You need to get your GPA up and the DAT up. Forget the extracurriculars, they won't overcome either that GPA or DAT. Canadian or not, you have some work to do and you need to apply to schools that you realistically have a shot at...and those schools do not include Case, UoP or Columbia.

lol....thats a bit harsh? however, what Ragmata and the others said about your GPA is true.

in the end, the decision is up to you.

i say after you retake the DAT just apply anyways and see what happens?

make sure to use the ADEA book and predents.com to check the statistics. apply to schools that have stats around what you have.

apply smart. read many other threads and do your research. this will help you a lot because you want to know all the tricks.

I don't have a knack for sugar coating things, but what I said is probably accurate. Sometimes a taste of harsh reality is just what someone needs to get moving...hopefully that is the case in this instance.
