Hey Everyone!

As a bright highschool student I am trying to decide on a specific career choice, and would like a little help. I have narrowed down my choices to medicine, business/accounting, and corporate law. I would just like to ask a few questions about enbarking on a career in medicine.

1. What are the positives in medicine?

2. What is a typical day like?

3. How competetive is the field?

4. What is the salary like, of a family physician?

5. If you were in my position what industry would you pick, and why?

Thanks for all the info!

1) There are many positives: doing a job that makes a difference, good pay, life of learning, stimulation, interesting subject matter.

2) Depends on what you want: Derm and ophtho not busy, surgery you work often. Call is a part of most specialties, which means you are woken up in the middle of the night and have to go in on weekends occassionally.

3) Getting in is very competitive, once you get in its even more competetive to do what you want to do where you wanna do it.

4) 150 to 200 grand

5) I was in your position, and I'm choosing to go into medicine. Law and Business and academics seemed like they would short change me. However bad people make medicine seem, being a slave to corporate America or working my way up in a law firm would be dismal. You'll hear people bitch about everything, do what you're interested in. If you like science, do medicine or research, if you are more into social science be a lawyer. If you're greedy and heartless be a MBA.
