...to the residents dinner?

Jeans? slacks? Would a dress be overdressed? How a/b ties for the guys? I'm assuming a suit is unnecessary. Just wanted to know everyone's thoughts.

Clothes, wear clothes. ;)

Ok, seriously. Nice casual is the way to go. Jeans are okay as long as it doesn't look sloppy. Check with the restaurant/location where it's being held and ask about the dress if you're uncertain. Most resident dinners are casual, though.

If you show up in a tie, you will likely feel very out of place. Sweaters/jeans are what we see mostly

Trust me, we arent evaluating the way you dress, unless you are one of the 2% that stands out (for not a good reason)...
 
Thanks. Yeah I wasn't too worried a/b being judged, just didn't want to be too over or under dressed for my own comfort.
