What type of program might I be able to secure with these stats, as a non-US IMG?

Hello everyone,

I'm a foreign medical student who plans on applying for a pathology residency in the US in a few years. I'm already done with Step 1, and would like to have some insight on which type of program (i.e., community/university, low/mid/high tier) I might be able to match to with the following stats:

Recent grad, permanent US resident
Step 1: > 265, Step 2 CK: > 265, CS: Pass, 1st attempt
Research experience: 2 publications as a first author in home country, but not in pathology
US clinical experience: 3 months of pathology clerkship, if I'm able to be accepted.

I know my application would look great in terms of my scores, what concerns me is the lack of research in pathology. Would it be too out of reach to get a mid-tier academic program? Should I do research in pathology to improve my chances?

Thanks in advance.

Apply widely to high tier and mid tier programs and rank based on the region where you’d like to work and live. You should have no problems.

I agree with Unty. You don't have anything to worry about. Apply to mid and high tier universities. I'm sure you'll get many (>5) interviews. The rest is your interview day and personality. Your score and research and all that is to get you an interview. The rest is how you do on the interview day and if you raise any red flags in terms of personality match.
