I just wanted to get a sense of any other neurotic people out there...

So I'll say
1)application song: "A New Day" (cheesy, but I was denied last year)

2)interview song: "Lose Yourself" (it worked=6 waitlists...)
😀

Anyone else out there? This thread is more interesting than some of the "affirmative action/what race and identity am I?" threads, so post your med school theme songs!😛

haha, neurotic... definitely. that's what this process does to people.

I don't have an interview song, but for that apps, it was "Another One Bites the Dust" 😀 Although, I don't know all of the words, mostly the tune and the refrain.

The William Tell Overture

During the entire application process I felt like I could hear this song constantly playing in the back of my mind. The entire process is one ordeal after another, a marathon of getting transcripts, letters of rec, kissing booty, getting some very important paper signed, and so on...

On the way to one of my interviews the lot I was going to park in was full. I ended up parking waaaay far away - in order to make it on time I had to sprint full out in my lovely suit and heals - I'm surprised I didn't kill myself. If I was somehow caught on video running to this interview like a crazy with a panic stricken look on my face --the best song to accompany this horrible scene would've been The William Tell Overture.

for me, its all about the 'Rocky' theme song. Which worked well until I started calling one of my student interviewers Apollo and then I tried to sock him, but its cool cuz I didn't want to go to UCLA anyways.

During the app process it was definately "Flight of the Bumblebees."

The interview days at some schools though seemed a bit like the Doors, "People are strange" I didn't realize people still wore green suits. It was like Midwestern Miami Vice.

And Moskeeto, as long as no one called you "paper champion", it seems like a good thing. "I must break you..."

Great. Now I'm having Rocky flashbacks...

Aww man, you stole mine! That damn song has been in the back of my head for two application cycles now...

"It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight..." BRING ON THESE WAITLISTS!

'There's more to me than you' by Jessia Andrews.

It is so easy to get caught up in the application process and before you know it, you start to think that your self-worth relies on the number of acceptances you recieve. This song helps put things into perspective and reminds me that the adcom's evaluation of how well i would fit into their in-coming class has nothing to do with who i am as a person. This is going out to anyone out there that is doubting their self-worth because of the application process. Hang in there!!

i meant Jessica, not Jessia! 😉

I needed some confidence as I strutted / walked / nervously approached my interviews .... so I chose "I'm Too Sexy."

Guess what theme song this is from? 😀

Sometimes AMCAS looks perfect
Nothing to resubmit
Sometimes you get a call
That you need to send updates
No matter what the fees are this time
No adcom?s gonna stand in my way
This online forum
And S-D-N-ers
Gives every pre-med some post pads and hoooope....

Clicking all, the threads in Pre-allo
Refreshing, the polls in Pre-allo

The lost antennas
The interviews
I?m bound to get offers
It?s my app and my dream
No adcom?s gonna stop me now

I used to hear "theres no easy way out" from the rocky movie!!!
pretty good song to get you pump!! I used for the ride to the mcat center the day i went to take it.

Mine was that Rocky song: Eye of the Tiger.

I burned it on a CD and I have it set to play as my alarm to wake me up. I'm such a loser. 🙂

Mine was "Lose Yourself." I love that line, "Success is my only Bleep Bleep Option!

Hee. Hee.

So far, it's been "The Distance" by Cake. "The arena is empty except for one man, still driving and striving as fast as he can..."

Yeah, I know it sounds competitive, but on those late nights trying to study, it's encouraging to think that everyone else has gone to bed, but I'm still going.

This is a cool thread idea! Oh and "Rocky" is awesome.

Here is a song that really sums up the medical admissions process - "That's Life" sung by Frank Sinatra with that funky organ in the background. Sometimes I wonder if Frank ever did apply to med school - the lyrics are really striking!

That's life - that's what all the people say
You're ridin' high in April, shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around

CHORUS:
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself ... flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life), I tell you I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby, but my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

CHORUS

That's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin' out but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothin' shakin' come this here July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball a-and die
My, my!

Good luck guys! I hope we all get in!

Definitely "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World.... When I was rejected (literally) and sitting in my car this song started playing on the radio with these words.. "Hey, don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head you feel left out, looked down on. Just try your best. Try everything you can.... etc. " 😛

2 songs really. L.L. Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out" and Liz Phair's "Polyester Bride"

Before every interview, I used to put on my headphones and jog in place listening to "Lose Yourself." It definitely pumped me up and I guess it worked.

=AIM-MEDDY
HMS 2007😉

Ahh, no country fans out there?

I can't remember any particular songs that I would admit on this board 😀
but uplifting country music has definitly been on in my car and in my head during interviews. May have something to do with the fact that I am either going back to Arizona (big country music country) or to Nashville after spending four years in Canada. I am ready to go back to my hick roots 😛 !!! Bring on the boot stomping...time to get me a horse!

I WAS GONNA RETAKE THE MCATS,
THEN I GOT HIGH,
I WAS GONNA SEND IN MY APPS,
THEN I GOT HIGH,
NOW I'M NOT GOING TO MEDSCHOOL,
AND I KNOW WHY,
CUZ I GOT HIGH,
CUZ I GOT HIGH,
CUZ I GOT HIGH....

learn from my mistakes!!!

LMAO

Mine was Were Are You Going, Dave Matthews

I won't hold grudges, but I will remember...

"Fighter" (Christina)
No I won't forget, I'll remember...

and

"Let Me Blow Ya Mind" (Eve and Gwen) this one especially made for reapplicants...
I knew I had to give you more, it's only been a year
Now I got my foot through the door, and I ain't goin nowhere
It took a while to get me in, and I'm gonna take my time
Don't fight that good $%#& in your ear, now let me blow ya mind!

YES!!! I'm just waitlisted, but when i get into one of my six waitlist schools I will celebrate with that song.

😀

great thread! i'll have to make up a get me through the wait-lists mix from this songs!
i only applied to schools within driving distance from me (<8 hours), which means i spent a lot of time driving. what got me through was singing songbooks with ella fitgerald (not well, mind you). it was great for my nerves, but awful for my voice - i was really hoarse for one interview...

"Lose Yourself" is definitely motivational.
Fizz, I have that same line on a banner on my wall.

"I Can" by Nas

This song is really inspirational. When you listen to the lyrics, you can't help but feel good about yourself.

'I know I can be what I want to be....If I work hard at it, I'll be where I want to be'

Cheesy, I know...but hey! 🙂

at the risk of exposing how unhip I am, what the hell is "lose yourself"?

😕

"lose yourself" is by eminem...theme song from the 8mile soundtrack

As for my songs...

While studying for mcats:
Jay-Z - Breathe Easy
Eminem - Business

While on the plane to interviews:
Linkin Park - Somewhere I Belong

While on the plane coming back from some interviews:
Phantom Planet - California Here We Come

Pre Interview- "My Way" by Frank Sinatra
Post Interview- "Another one bites the dust" by Queen... those brits do have a way with words

My theme song was Rick James "SuperFreak". Didn't really have anything to do with it being application season. My theme song is always "SuperFreak". However, when I got a little down and out I would think of "Simple Man" by Lynard Skynard, that three chord wonder always brings a tear to my eye. I am also a big fan of "Electric Avenue" by Eddie Grant.

As the rejections came rolling in it was Cake's version of "I will Survive." They run circles around Gloria Gaynor.

But this second time around it's going to be "Tubthumping." I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never going to keep me down. 😡 It worked during chem exams freshman year.

Keep 'em coming guys, this thread is awesome.

Hehe, I thought I was the only one who walked around with "a theme song" in my head too........go figure! Well, let's see.......I have several themes, all except the last one are my application/mcat songs:

1) The Touch - Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack
2) Dare - Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack :horns:
3) No Easy Way Out - Rocky Soundtrack 🙁
4) Bring Me To Life - Evanescence
5) Lose Yourself - Eminem )+pissed+
6) Angel - Massive Attack (I always picture the Adidas commercial for the '98 World Cup, soccer that is)
7) Wake Up - Rage against the Machine 😎 (but only the first 30 seconds and the last 2 minutes of the song-the "singing" sucks)
8) Give it to me - MJ feat Slash (my "during" interview song)😡

Nice Thread Idea!

Metallica...."Nothing Else Matters"

then after the interviews,

Jimmy Buffett..."Why Don't We Just Get Drunk and Screw"

I kept playing the movie theme music to "Rudy" in my head just before the interviews...we'll see how it paid off soon enough.

I had lots..."Lose Yourself" was definitely on top of the list...that was a good one! What if...you had...one opportunity...

I also liked...

Fugazi, "Waiting Room"
The Hives, "I Hate to Say I Told You So"
Vines, "Get Free"
Ben Folds, "Philosophy"

"In the End" by Linkin Park

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn?t even matter how hard you try, keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme, to explain in due time
I tried so hard

"Bittersweet" by Big Head Todd and the Monsters

"So you wanna be a gangsta" - Too Short

"Gimmee that nutt" - Eazy E

"Porno star" - 50 Cent

AND THEY WORKED!

"Simon" Lifehouse,

I have felt the same, as you I felt the same, as you I felt the same. It's a good pick-up song.

Any more for reapplicants needing a pick up or waitlisted purgetory people like me...(please spare some with the word "waiting" in it...)😛

O.A.R.
"Desperation Song"

Everclear - Santa Monica

here's how it starts:

I am still living with your ghost
Lonely and dreaming of the west coast
(wanted to stay on west coast)
I don't wanna be your downtime
I don't wanna be your stupid game
(pulled out of some waitlists)
With my big black boots and an old suitcase
I do believe I'll find myself a new place
(going to interviews)

it keeps going, you get the idea..

I'm gonna get thru this -- David Bedingfield or however you spell it...damn good song

and of course nothing beats Rocky...played that before my Orgo Exams 🙂

Angel -Massive Attack
Clocks -Coldplay
Babylon -David Gray

ahhh... i definitely feel bugs on the fugazi beat...

also, puffy's 'we ain't going nowhere' for the times i felt like i was the shizzle my nizzle on the drizzle tip... and, for obvious reasons, in times when i honestly felt that next year i wasn't going anywhere...

also jejune's 'morale is low'

phantom planet 'can't take it'

p

I really don't know what the name of my application time song was, but it's the one that your mom sings in the shower right after I've f#$cked her brains out. Peace.

I hear that mom comment alright...maybe she's singing "It's small world after all"

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small, very small world...

Don't ruin a perfectly good thread with garbage. Peace out.

🙄

small...LOL:laugh:

I like loose yourself and also The impossible dream by Luther Vandross. Awesome song!!

"Detachable Penis" by King Missile.
Either that or See my Vest from the Simpsons
"some men hunt for sport, others hunt for food
The only thing i'm hunting for
is an outfit that looks good.

See my vest, see my vest
made from real gorilla chest
see this sweater, nothing's better
than authentic Irish Setter
See this hat, twas my cat
Evening wear vampire bat......
