So I know that AADSAS opens on June 1st. What will be considered an early application? From June 1st-??? Also, when you send it in do you have to have everything completed? Do LORs and DAT scores need to be in before you can send it out? Also, if I don't have enough shadowing hours can I change it later or should I wait until I have enough before sending in the app?

Thanks 🙂

Mid-night of May 31st should be your aim.

LOL..relax anything by the end of June will be early...
I submitted my application at the end of May with DAT scores, it was sent out on June 23rd and LoRs sent to schools on Jul 14th. So my file was not complete until July 14th but i received first round of interview calls.

If the application was submitted at the end of May why was it not sent out until the end of June? What was the hold-up?

As far as I know, they first need to check the transcripts, which takes a couple of weeks.

If you submit your app any time in June - it is considered early.

You can submit it without LORs or DAT but most schools will not review your app without DAT scores (will review without LORs though)

What do you mean by saying "enough" ? Most schools don't say how many shadowing hours are required (some say shadowing is not required at all), but some do.

Last year, AADSAS opened May 15th and I submitted May 28th. They will send so many batches out a week. My application was sent on the "third" batch. I received 2 interviews by early/mid July.

Well, for TUFTS they require that you shadow a general dentist for at least 30 hours and I have only done about 12 for one dentist. The other dentists were either specialists or I really didn't enjoy shadowing with them.

Also, I am retaking Physics II this summer because I got a C- when I took it a few semesters ago. I didn't want to get rejected from schools with a C- in my transcript. Can I still apply early with the C-? I won't be finished until mid July.

your application is going to be early if you submit anytime in june because most schools don't start looking at applications until later because they're still busy filling their seats for the class of 2013. no worries...get it in anytime in june and you'll be considered early.

Agree about June. IMO August and onwards is definitely late.

I'm planning on turning my application in early June. However i don't take the DAT until June 25th. I know that it usually takes a month for the official scores to be sent out, however, will they still review an appication if you fax them your unofficial scores?

Some schools will look at a faxed copy and others won't. I would just call the schools and ask if they want them. I think that your official DAT scores probably won't take a month either. They were pretty fast for most people last cycle, so I wouldn't expect much different this cycle. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Letters of Recommendation seemed to be the big hold up for most people, but as long as you get pre-Dec. 1 interviews you have just as much chance as the very first person to interview.

Remember there is a time delay from the time you electronically submit your application and the time the school actually receives the hard copy. The Schools actually will look only at the hard copy forwarded by AADSAS. So count on any where from 4 to 6 weeks for AADSAS to confirm your transcripts, calculate your GPA's, post your LORs, etc. So plan on trying to get all of your documentation in as close to the time you submit. A June 1 submission could mean a early or mid July hard copy in the hands of the Adcom. UOP for example only considers your application if they physically have it even though it is available "online". And so your "real submission time" is the date they receive the hard copy. DAT scores are reported directly to the school and are not part of this time delay, so don't worry about when the DAT is done. But get on those transcripts and LORs early so all materials are in the hot little hands of AADSAS...there will be maddening delays. Good luck.
