Why do you need a letter from a DO if you want to apply? I dont even know any DO's....frustrating...

How do you know you want to be a DO if you've never met one?

It's not hard to get a letter---just shadow a couple of times. Don't be lazy.

What's the deal with those signs that tell you how fast you're going? It's like "yeah, thanks for letting me know - I have one in my dashboard too it's called a SPEEDOMETER." What's the deal, are they trying to embarrass us in front of the other cars? It's a violation of privacy if you ask me. And everyone slows down when they see it - itls like "uh oh, better slow down, theres a big sign saying how fast I'm going." As if there's a cop sitting there too lazy to use his radar detector and hes just watching the sign. I think we should have big signs that light up "dingus" whenever a cop drives by - that would be helpful.

I just looked up a D.O. in the phonebook, called him up, and asked if I could meet w/ him about a L.O.R. We met, talked for about an hour, then he wrote me a L.O.R. They know that a lot of people who are applying to D.O. schools don't know D.O.'s and many of them wouldn't mind helping you out as long as they think you're sincere in your intentions.

I made contact with a local D.O. through one of the various campus student medical groups. I've shadowed him about 3 times and we've devloped a good relationship. Just find someone friendly to shadow.

Good luck.

i shadowed a DO for a month, asked her for a letter, she was game, wrote it and from my interviews i guess it was really really good. shadowing sucks alot of the time but you gotta do what you gotta do 🙂

a side bonus is that when why DO comes up at your interviews its nice to toss in the anecdotal story of the DO you shadowed..how he/she was SO awesome and SO great with patients etc etc etc

I didn't have a letter from a DO, and I got into UMDNJ-SOM, where i'm happily a third year 🙂 I did have a letter from an MD physician, which showed that I had experience in the medical field though.

It is good to throw in something about a DO in the interview, for example, my FP growing up was a DO, so I talked a little about that.
