What's the workload like at YOUR school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think AZCOM's MS-1 year is pretty similar to that of CCOM. That makes sense of course since they are both programs of Midwestern University. To all MS-1 CCOMers, how does your schedule differ from ours? The intensity has to be pretty similar.

Is biochem, pharm, immino, behavioral, and cell bio integrated into the system based lecture from the start of first year?

Yes- All the basic science and clinical science in a particular course is presented during that system, regardless of whether it is first or second year. You start having clinical lectures during your first system.

You have OMM on monday OR wednesday. You sometimes have anatomy opposite OMM, other times you have the time off.

Example...Group A has OMM on Mondays and Anatomy on Wednesdays
Group B has Anatomy on Mondays and OMM on Wednesdays

During the first semester there are only 2 Anatomy labs, so you have basically every Monday off if you're in group B and every Wednesday off if you're in group A. Anatomy labs pick up in the second semester, and continue throughout the second year.

thanks! 👍

Is lecture at WVSOM mandatory? What is the day to day schedule like? Thanks.

Lecture per se is not mandatory, but there are some that are. Most labs/case conferences are mandatory as well.

We are in class so, so much. I would venture to say we rank near the top of total number of lecture/contact hours. There's a big push to cut this back.

One of the big changes for next year will be the elimination of block week exams, which are being replaced by 'integrated' exams. If this is executed well, it will be a big improvement. We'll see though.

kcumb, classes are mandatory. labs are mandatory. we have 6 week sections to study in a systems approach, with typically 2 quizes, plus an anatomy exam, plus a pathology exam, plus a final exam, plus interviews, plus omm exams. typically in class from 8-1pm lecturs, then depending on your lab group from 1-5pm for labs. if anything is missed, it will count off on your point score or you might have to make it up by writing a paper. there is a dress code, and professionalism cards.

its a really great school, its tough, but somethings just seem backward with them... but overall im happy here.

Dude, Classes are not manditory. It may say that in the handbook like every other school does but it is not manditory

Sounds rough. Are all classes mandatory for UMDNJ-SOM?
