If I am not African-American, should I not even bother applying to Howard? I've noticed that most of their students are black with a couple of latinos.

If the school is 99% blk and you are wht, are you eligible for AA because you are an URM?

Hey all, this is my very first response to a SDN thread (so bear with me). I completed my AMCAS in sept., recieved an invitation to interview late oct., couldn't attend the interview till the last day they offered me (dec 9th). And recieved a letter of acceptance on dec 19th.![]()
Now in response to the secondary, my interview invite letter was accompanied by a few biographical questions but no essays. On the day of interviews we were given a two sided paper that had essay questions that resembled that of a secondary. We had to complete it and give it to our interviewer before we left.
Hope that helped.

First off, congratulations on the acceptance. A 10 day turnaround between interview and acceptance is great!![]()
Also, thanks for the info about the interview. I though the secondary seemed a lil too good to be true!![]()

Anyone else heard from howard? I sent them my secondary a while back and they still haven't even cashed my check. Looks like i'll call them tomorrow.

Hi,
You mentioned that they still hadn't cash your check. If I remember correctly Howard's application fee was $45 payable by money order or cashier check only. In the letter that accompanied the application they mentioned that due to the number of apps received they would NOT notify students of missing materials or submission of incorrect form of payment. Pull out your letter and double check. I hope your app is not waiting for review because they won't deposit your bank check. How long ago did you mail it in?
However that may not be the problem, Howard is notoriously slow. I have yet to receive my app complete post card (and I'm pretty sure my lor's have been received). Keep me posted.
Good luck!

Thanks for the upday, dmitri! 🙂 I'm going to call back on Monday to make sure everything's going along smoothly.Originally posted by dmitrinyr
evodevo,
I called the admissions office at Howard today, they told me that my application is complete and is under review by the committee. If you want to know, I sent in my secondary in October and my LOR's came in october or november.
I wish all of you luck in this hectic process and hope that we all get what we wish for, ACCEPTANCES!!

and I'm "under review"....what on earth does that mean? my app has been complete since November.
Fumoffu said:I called and they said to write an e-mail to Ann Finney.
Jamaican MD said:I have been under review since January. . .Mind you, I've called at least once a month. Same story.

draino15 said:aiight, so i talked to my boy, this second year at HU. he said its getting so late, that its time to make some moves if you really want howard to get on the ball with your app.
He said to write an email to Dean Cannon....(maybe "CC:" Ann Finney), but if you go to the DEAN, you go to the source. Plus, always send an updated transcript or new LO-Interest. all of which might help.
thats my 2 cents.
EvoDevo said:Hi guys:
So I sent the email to the addresses above, and I receive the following response. Note that it appears to be a form letter, but apparently I never received it to begin with, and I've been complete since Feb. 🙄 Anyway, hope this helps.

RE: NOTIFICATION OF APPLICATION REVIEW
Dear Applicant:
I am writing to inform you that we have received and reviewed your AMCAS application. Secondary applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received. Interviews are currently being conducted, and we expect to continue interviewing through the end of May, but no later than mid-June. If we are able to invite you to the College of Medicine for an interview with one of our Admissions Committee members, we will inform you of available dates in writing. Please do not contact the Office of Admissions to request an interview.
Applicants who have completed the application process, and who have not received an invitation to interview by May 31 should receive written notification of a final decision on or before August 30. Please forward all correspondence directly to the Office of Admissions, to insure that it becomes part of your application file.
We will consider applications with MCAT scores from 2001 through 2004 ONLY, that is, scores not more than three years old at the end of the current application year, 2004. Letters of recommendation must be dated during the application year 2003-2004, unless you are a reapplicant and have requested that we consider your letters of recommendation from the prior year?s application, 2002-2003. You will receive no further correspondence regarding letters of recommendation or MCAT scores, so please review your materials to be sure they are sufficiently current.
Due to the large volume of applications, if we are not able to invite you to the College of Medicine for an interview, you will receive no further correspondence from our office regarding an interim status.
We appreciate your patience, and thank you for your interest in the College of Medicine.
Sincerely,
Dawn L. Cannon, M.D.
Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions
