Im bored at work, so I wanted to start a thread about something that always catches my interest.

There are so many different names and avatars here, some obvious, but some mysterious. Does rzoo like animals? Is JaBoomDay a latin saying? (i.e. Jaboomday, I found it!)? Is MedPR in Public Relations? What the hell is a FrkyBgStok?

And why did how/why did you choose your avatar?

Do tell!
 
Ill start too...

My name is pretty obvious...I love Osteopathic ideas and principles and can't wait to become a DO. If all things were equal, I would choose DO over any other educational opportunity. But, I also think that the word and public understanding of "holistic" is not fully accurate, so I chose HalfListic to denote my desire to clean up anything not founded in science, if anything.

My Avatar: One of my favorite shows...BBC's Sherlock. Its on Netflix...watch it. Watch it now!
 
My name is a genus name for several species of dipper birds (I'm fond of birds, I guess). It was the name of a dipper in a book I loved as a child. My avatar is just a llama cartoon that made me burst out laughing the first several times I saw it. I might be easily amused.
 
my name is something I actually made as a username for another website years ago when I was going through my "emo" state as a teenager. I had actually wanted teardrops because it sounded more dark (lol), but that was taken so I chose angldrps (read: angel drops). Now , years later I think back on how silly I was as a teenager because I wanted to be "emo" just to fit into a click in my HS not because thats who I was as a person. I am glad I didn't end up with 'teardrps' because it would make me sound like a really sob. haha🙂. I have stuck with using the same username every time I have to make a new one on any website because its easier to remember.
Yeah, thats my little story...🙂

!!!! That's one of my all time favorite shows.

I might start Sherlock as well in a few weeks.
 
My avatar is Obi Wan Kenobi aka Ben Kenobi..not that it matters because it is Mr. Kenobi to you. I am a bit older than your average premed gunner and felt that old man Kenobi was a nice representation of my wise internet alter ego.

selttiks is skittles spelled backwards. I hate skittles but somehow this became a nickname just because a friend wanted a friend named skittles. Even I don't get it. 288 is a combination of numbers I wore during volleyball in high school. My avatar is a random picture on my phone. I like dogs, hate cats and I think it's funny.

Mine is a play on saxophone. My instrument... Super band dork basically.
 
The UT part of my name is from that I went to UT Austin and "sksk" is from a band I used to like when I was younger called scary kids scaring kids...it's screamo/emo. The reason for the sloth is because I love sloths and most of my usernames for other stuff is ragingsloths

Got a nickname in middle school, it stuck, I'm a big guy, and it's the beginning of my last name. Long story short, it was my AOL instant messanger name in the early nineties and i am too lazy to ever change it.
 
My name is a nickname my HS pe teacher called me, then later when i became a DJ i used dj ravizzle as my name, do i guessed it just stuck. My avatar is me "androidified" i really like Android phones and that's why i chose that.
 
My username is a nickname given to one of my favorite golfers of all time, Ben Hogan. My avatar is Walter White, because well, he's a badass.

Mine is kinda boring... it's the email address assigned to me by my school based on the first letters of my last name. My avatar is the monster of an ambulance my fire department used to have. It was so big that it didn't fit into some ED garages. Fun to drive though. 🙂
 
I got my name from a bad ass final boss from a game I played in my youth. It's basically become almost a pen-name for me now.

Regarding my Avatar, it's an Oroborous tattoo, or the symbol for eternal life held by homunculi in Full Metal Alchemist.
 
Dolomite was a type of hockey stick that I played with and 16 was my jersey number.
 
My username is a shortened version of a reminder to myself that success doesn't just happen, it's a result of sticking to an quality process. A "you get out what you put in" sort of deal.

My avatar is a medical drawing, which is a recent fascination of mine. It used to be Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes. I'll change it back at some point.

Just a username I've been using since 1994 or so. IIRC I had Hackers playing in the background when I was logging into IRC for the first time and trying to think of a nick. With names like Zerocool flying around in the air behind me, NightGod just came to me and I've stuck with it since. No avatar because I've rarely used them.

I hate the whole "bro" culture, so I decided to make fun of it. I'll either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain. We'll see.

Let's see... how do I explain this incriminating story....

So back when I was like 18/19 years old (this was a LONG time ago so don't judge!) I was kind of in a stage of having fun blah blah blah not in college. A group of friends were at my apartment (yes I lived alone at 18) after we had just finished a day of surfing. It was kind of tradition to smoke weed after a long day out on the water and relax and listen to music. Well one particular day someone brought a Mad Lion CD which is a reggae artist. If you have ever smoked weed you know that any little thing will tickle you as being the funniest thing in the world. While we were listening to the Mad Lion CD, you couldn't understand a word he was saying but at some point in the song you just heard loud and clear, "JABOOMDAYAAAYAA" and I don't know how to explain it but it was just so damn funny that I kept saying it over and over again and somehow I ended up being nicknamed Jaboomday. You had to have been there and on some mind altering substance to really get how funny it was. I have no idea what the word means but maybe someone Jamaican knows. I sure hope it's nothing horrible. lol. To answer your question Halflistic, it's a Jamaican saying. I should really try to find out what it means.
For the record, I haven't touched weed in 11 years! I was never really a fan of how dumb it made me so the phase didn't last long... lol



Oh and my avatar, I just tried to find a girl cartoon that most looked like me. No fun explanation there.

When I first joined SDN I was a political science major and wanted to be a doctor. Well switched my major to business, getting my MBA, and applying to medical school. So yea lame name...
 
My user name comes from my desire to change the world for the better and the 36 was the MCAT score I wanted.... I kind of missed the mark on that one.

My avatar is "Full Frontal" from Mobile suit Gundam Unicorn. All of my avatars are science fiction characters that have in some way changed the world they live in, some for better some for worse. Right now I am going through all the different faces of Char, of which Full Frontal is a part of. Every 1000 post I have desided to change my avatar.
 
My username is a tribute to Michael Jordan, he has a website that refers to him as 'jumpman'. I love basketball. V is the initial of my name and 15th is the day of the month I was born. This was my first AIM screen name in the 5th grade (if i remember correctly)

No avatar because I don't know how to add one.
 
My username is based off my fraternity... dn represents my chapter, tke (the fraternity itself), and 1518 is my "number" in the chapter (for lack of a better explanation). My avatar is of a furry kitten, this is because I find kittens funny, you should too.

Hi!

My name is pretty obvious.. I was lacking any sort of creativity when I started my SDN account. AK because I live in Alaska. The picture is of my friends and I this past March doing the "Running of the Reindeer" in Anchorage, AK. It's similar to the Running of the Bulls in Spain, only in about 8 inches of slushy snow! 🙂 To those of you that have not had the chance to run with the reindeer, I highly suggest it.

EDIT: we're wearing bloodly lab coats because we were suppsed to be Evil Mad Scientists. Costumes are a must in this race. (Just adds to the fun!)
