I found some threads that were discussing allo secondaries as being late right now, but when is it 'late' for submitting osteo secondaries? I am shadowing this month, would like to apply this cycle, but want to know FOR SURE that I can get a DO letter before I shell out the extra bucks for more secondaries. I applied to schools that dont require a DO, but when would my applications be considered 'late'? October? November?

(P.S. MSUCOM, my state school, is already sent in and I am anxiously waiting...I know that getting it in anytime after Aug is pretty much late for them)

MSUCOM after August is Late? I don't know about that. It says on their application for serious consideration send it in before October 15. As long as you have good stats it should really not matter. You still should have most of your secondaries submitted by September, latest early October IMO.

I went to MSU undergrad, had many classes in Fee Hall (where the medical school is) and do know that getting in your secondary in the middle of October is definitely not early. They like to have all of their seats filled by the first part of December, so take away the review time and that tells you when the latest you could have a shot would be.

Aside from that, I know that ASAP is obviously the best choice for getting things in. However, my problem arises in that I have yet to secure a DO letter and dont want to drop a ton of money on secondaries if this is not going to happen this cycle. Hence my original question...when is the 'early' phase over? October? November? (Since deadlines arent until April at some schools, does this bump back when you would ideally have everything submitted?)

If you do searching in pre-osteo you will also find kids fliiping out as recently as three weeks ago starting threads like "It's August!!!! Am I Too Late To Apply??????". Just chill out. Unless you have some stats that put on the border or below what the school is looking for you're fine. Keep in mind that a lot of people who tend to post on SDN are also obsessive about a lot of stuff and if a secondary isn't in the day they receive they might as well cease to exist.

Well said, I agree if you have good stats it should not matter when you apply unless you are sending your AACOMAS in like October or November.

Btw I go to MSU also.

Yay fellow Spartan, best of luck to you! I'm currently at Central taking a few courses that I couldnt get to when I was at State...and I already miss Bell's!

The reason that I am getting concerned is I have yet to pin down a letter from a DO, and my science GPA is about a 3.28. Before I got on SDN I was positive things would work out, now I'm doubting myself...I'm basically looking for other peoples' opinions as my financial situation is pretty grim right now and I literally cannot afford to waste money on a ton of secondaries with no chance of being accepted. Wondering if it would be better to wait until next cycle to apply with lower stats?? Or if it is truly still early in the game, regardless of what SDN makes you think....

EWW Bells, I hated that greasy ass pizza place. Even though it was a fun place to hang out at 3 in the morning. It felt weird when I went back to MSU yesterday (I just graduated this year), It felt like I have been gone for years. Although the crop of hunnies this year looks real good 😀😀. Man I wish I was 18 all over again lol.

I talked to MSUCOM yesterday and they told me they should start looking at secondaries in couple weeks. Your science GPA is fine, whats your MCAT score? I'm just shooting in the dark, I already took the MCAT and applied but won't know my score till Sept 13th. So I'm praying I did good 🙁. You cant find a DO letter, I'm exactly opposite I can't find a science professor letter. I'm working on the rest of my secondaries and hopefully will mail out 4-5 of them in next couple weeks. Don't worry its NOT LATE, MSUCOM is very aggressive in their admissions policies compared to other DO schools, for other schools even if you submit your secondaries in mid October thats still decent.

How are your EC's, LOR's, do you have any research experience? Remember all these things will compensate for the GPA. Apply to private DO schools, and schools that take out of stater's (e.g. UNECOM, WVSOM). Public ones like PCOM and MSUCOM mostly take in-state people. Apply smartly, do your research of the schools before you apply so you save money, and time. 😍

GL hopefully both of us get into MSUCOM, I really want to go instate.

Yeah I really want MSUCOM too...thatd be a dream! My MCAT is 28Q, ECs are pretty varied (mostly non-medically related but things I love), and I'm currently doing an informal post-bacc at Central to hopefully raise the GPA. I also am working on the medical floor of the hospital up here, and am an intern for Special Olympics this year. I absolutely detest academic research, never went back after the first week, so that will be no help...I just hope someone sees my app and falls in love!

(ps if you dont like Bell's I hope you have some love for Woody's!!!)

PCOM is a private school.
