Hi, everyone!

I'd like to get some opinions about this:

I will be taking the MCAT in Jan. Should I submit my application before my score is released or after? My professor wants me to wait to schedule my interview with the pre-medical committee until my score has been released so they can boast about it in the committee letter. So realistically, I won't be submitting my app. until early March, at the earliest. Will this be too late to get a shot at scholarships? I also read somewhere that some schools offer interviews before a MCAT score is released, can anyone verify that? I talked to someone at DMU and they said they do not interview until they have a MCAT score.

My top schools:
DMU
Scholl

A little about my stats:
3.66cGPA/ 3.60sGPA
~30 hours of podiatry shadowing
~100 hours of patient care experience

Hi Mcja,

You should certainly apply before you get your scores or even take the test. Your application won't be considered until it's complete, but you'll do yourself a favor by having everything ready to go by the time you're ready to submit your scores.

APPLY BEFORE!!!! You will certainly get in with those grades. That extra boasting about the committee letter won't be worth it b/c with a 3.6 sGPA you will definitely get in. It is not worth those couple extra sentences to risk waiting till each school is at least 70% filled

They will most likely say they'll have to wait until the scores come in, but if you wait until the day you receive the score which is probably mid February you will then have to wait a little longer for the application to be verified by AACPM

Also, Des Moines is one of the smallest among the 9 schools and accepts the smallest class size among the 5 non-West Coast schools. It would really be best to get the committee letter before you take the MCAT, get the transcripts, and everything else before so that once AACPM gets your MCAT scores Scholl and Des Moines would see it.
For me, I got an interview acceptance from Barry without the MCAT scores, but Kent State and Scholl did say they will wait until getting MCAT scores before they go into depth with my application, and I am expecting a letter from Temple in the mail some day soon (since they sent it to my home address and not my current address up at university).

Thank you everyone for your responses. I didn't think about the verification process at all so thank you!!. I will definitely submit prior to taking my MCAT so that my application will be verified by the time my score is released.

so when is the earliest you can apply?

For this cycle? Right now.

For next cycle? The first day the application window opens.

which is usually around what month?

This year's app opened August 1st, I believe.

So I'm sure next year's app will follow suit, more or less?
