Around June-ish, when I submitted my primaries to AMCAS, I mentioned in my work&activities (in the research section) that I had a first author manuscript submitted.
I finally got good news today that it has been accepted by the journal and that the journal will reach out to me again some time in the near future of the exact publication information (when it will be published, doi number, etc)

I haven't heard back from the majority of schools I applied to as I have relatively low stats (+ most of my secondaries was submitted mid-August to early September) thus am hoping to update the schools asap to help raise my chances of getting an interview invite.

Can I update the schools that my first author pub was accepted by journal X right now? Or should I wait until I have more information such as the doi number and when the paper actually gets published?

Yes, it's acceptable to mention an accepted manuscript (which is not yet a "pub") before you can cite it properly. Of course, it would be better to wait until you have more information, but who would risk a rescission of an subsequent acceptance due to lying about such an accomplishment?

Would sending schools an update in October for an accepted publication be considered too early/pestering or is anytime fine for an update such as that?

I know that it might sound like a dumb question and that everyone's answers will differ, but if you were to be an applicant in this situation, would you wait for the actual acceptance letter + publication information to update the schools maybe a few weeks later from today, or update the schools now that your manuscript was accepted?

Why on earth would you wait, just for the certainty of giving them exact publication information? Apps are being reviewed every day, right now. Once you are rejected, no one is going to go back and reverse that decision after you send an update.

You haven't heard back from a majority of your schools, you have a bit of very good news, and have expressed a desire to send an update ASAP. So, what the hell are you waiting for, and why are you seeking validation from a bunch of strangers on SDN? It's your application, and decisions are being made every day, whether or not they are being communicated in a timely manner.

Given that I had a good understanding about the review process at each school from meticulous research, "I" would likely not wait.

it is a legit journal indexed in pubmed?

lots of predatory journals out there that will publish garbage if you pay the publication "open access" fee.

Thanks for your feedback. I tend to listen to others' opinions, especially from people with more life experience and knowledge, before I make any decisions. Knowing that there are several Adcoms and wise people on SDN, just wanted their opinion before I committed to anything 🤣 I agree with what you said and once again thanks for the feedback. Hope you have a successful cycle!

It is an open access journal but is indexed in Pubmed and is a Q1 journal, so I'm guessing that it is not predatory...?
