I am trying to decide if I should apply to VMRCVM since I am still IS for their application this year... I dont know if i will make it past their academic initial selection because they calculated my sci GPA to be 2.9 (when all the other schools are at least calculating it to me 3.1) and they do not provide any means to change that calculation 🙁 . Even if I do well and get a really high last 45 credit, improve my over all, and improve my GRE... I dont think I will make it to interviews. ...I cant rationalize spending $180 on a doomed application, even if i am IS. ...can anyone else rationalize why I should?... or is my judgment fair?

If it were me, unless I was 110% sure that I would absolutely not make it past first cut, I would still apply. Maybe call and talk it out with someone in the admissions department there?

I only applied to one, personally. Just wasn't willing to pay OOS tuition without trying at least twice and had a good plan for what to do for the extra year if I was rejected.

For what I want to do after vet school, personally, I can't justify being swamped with OOS tuition debt from any of the other schools I would want to attend (at least not at this point in time, if it takes a few app cycles to get accepted I may change my mind 😉 ). That's why I'm only applying to my IS. Thankfully, my IS is a great school for what I want to study, so I'm not sacrificing my education in any way!

Right now, I'm seriously considering only applying to UF. Is (or did) anyone else put all their eggs in one basket, and just apply to one school?

Don't feel like you need to apply to a handful of places. Sit down, weigh all your options, and seriously look at the bigger picture of what you're doing right now and what your future goals are. Its so easy to get wrapped up in the whole process of trying to simply get in to vet school that some people forget to keep post-vet school in their mind as well. If applying to only one school makes more sense for what you want, then only apply to one and do everything you can to sell yourself to what that particular school is looking for in an applicant.

Thanks everyone for the insight. I know it's going to be a struggle and at times, tumbling through my MCAT review book I wonder if I will be able to push through it. Not only that, but if I put my heart into this and end up not being able to get over the hurdle of admission, how I might handle that emotionally. I'm actually pretty calm about the whole process right now. I'm in the middle of biochem and nutrition, so there's plenty to keep me busy. It's just all the people who know I'm applying... I think at this point I could say, "The application isn't even due until October 2nd" in my sleep.

I'm thinking about it but not sure yet because I'd be applying to it OOS. Sooo, like Abney said, being realistic about the 10ish spots they have for OOS

I know! I thought about this school too but now I'm thinking of backing out because of the small chance of getting in (ie not accepting that many OOS people).

Plus it annoys me that the ANSC department here renumbered our core classes from 300 to 200 level even though they are still taught at a 300 level 😛

The teaching styles are different. Western has problem based learning where you work in groups to solve a problem presented in a case study. Lectures are at a minimum and you have to research alot on your own. Davis does the traditional lecture for 2 years and clinics for 2 years but they arenchanging their curriculum around now so maybe ask a student who is matriculating this year when the changes become effective. Davis might be highly competitive for OOS students while Western really makes sure you are the right person for their program. Tuition is going to be high for both as well.

Also the old curriculum is 3 years of coursework and 1 year of clinics...I wish it was 2+2 lol (I'm still in it - c/o 2014).

The grass is always greener, I think. I REALLY wanted to go to Tennessee, Georgia or Louisiana. I love the south. Although I also really enjoy Pullman, not quite as snooty as Seattle 😀
