Where did you get accepted/ Interviewed with Average Stats

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
always sucks to hear people say they couldn't take another gap year. why not? i intended to take a gap year and ended up taking 4. get a job and study for the mcat again! move home if you need to! don't tell me that taking loans out for a DO program (which are almost always more expensive and receive less institutional funding) is a better road....

agree to disagree.

It's a complicated situation as to why I made the decisions I made. I wish things were that simple, especially at that time. Just trust me when I say it lol. I don't want the thread to be derailed either.

agree to disagree.

The only thing to agree to is that you've done something that makes you an nontraditional applicant and thus you shouldn't expect anyone else to follow your footsteps. Furthermore to tear down anything else with worth, thanks to AOA ( Former AOA residencies that will favor DOs) DOs have good chances of making it into all the residencies they want. Sure, going MD is better, but it's not good enough to skip out on a year, and certainly not 4. I mean good luck family making at age 33.

So yes, there's nothing to agree to disagree to. You cannot expect anyone to do what you did because it is not something many people can do or want to. I'd rather not go back home to my parents and live there for 4 years while working a medial job as a research assistant.

Ty guys--I hear NOVA looks for specific things--so we'll see.

Dolfan--you gonna be attending NOVA?

I've paid my 2k deposit, though some other schools are still in play. I have a bunch of friends that will be going there for sure.

Another bump just for you serenade.

I'm surprised that these schools are actually interviewing this late. It somewhat confounds me. Also I thought SOMA + LECOM-E only take you if you have a DO LOR? Did they change their policy? ( Though the whole DO/MD LOR thing is somewhat asinine to begin with, just let them shadow and be done with that).

I know for LECOM at least, the DO letter is a check box sort of thing. It doesn't really matter what it says, just that you have one from a DO. Also, since they require the LORs after II, you can get an II without a DO LOR.

That being said, I think you need one in order for them to review your app after the interview. I know they say that they require it by the interview, but I've heard of people sending it shortly thereafter and not having an issue. I think one person was contacted by them to submit it (he did, but apparently they didn't get it), and his acceptance letter was sent literally the day after he submitted his LOR.

Pretty much all the DO schools interview into April, with some even interviewing into May. Most of them are full by early March, but they keep interviewing, because they have a minimum number of interview slots they have to fill, and they want a long enough waitlist to cover them in the event that people pull out. LECOM for example has a history of taking a LOT of people from their waitlist.

This thread gives me hope!

Waiting anxiously for my MCAT score on Tuesday! Applied to 15 schools with primary submitted August 3rd!

Keeping my fingers crossed

Completed aacomas in June. 4 Interview invites Lecom-Erie, Lecom-Bradenton, WVSOM, Nova Southeastern, and was accepted to Lecom-Erie. Most likely will withdraw other apps unless invited to another school I really really feel Id like better.
Stats: GPA 3.45 sci 3.25 MCAT: 27-29

Ill play. I feel that my stats are pretty average:

Stats
cGPA: 3.36
sGPA: 3.78
MCAT 29
Lizzy Score around a 62

Extras
My ECs are pretty below average: I only have 50 hours of shadowing experience and 130 hours of volunteering experience. I don't have any non-clinical volunteering experience and I have only volunteered at one clinic.

Primaries were released 7/4

Schools applied: KCOM, CCOM, AZCOM, PCOM, PCOM-GA, WesternU (Ponoma), LECOM-b, KCUMB, MUCOM, NSU, DMU

Interview invites received at: KCOM, WesternU, LECOM-B, KCUMB

I haven't heard back from CCOM, AZCOM, DMU, or NSU yet so I'm assuming they're silent rejections =( since everyone that applied after me has been getting interview invites already

Cool it brah it's so early still. I sat complete for like 2-4 months before I got ii's. Your stats are sweet so try not to spend too much money on deposits!

How long did it take for you all to start hearing back from schools RE: interviews (i.e. average range) once your secondaries were completed?

One admissions officer just informed me that students should plan waiting up to 5 months for an interview... :(

Will you be attending TAMU?

Absolutely. I ranked them #2 and the Texas system means I have no idea if I was accepted to any of the others besides my #1, UTMB Galveston. It was really 1a, 1b, 1c so I'm taking the A&M acceptance and going. Close to family, amazing hospital, residency in the field I'm interested in.

I'll throw my own stats in the ring.

cGPA: 3.55
sGPA: 3.45
MCAT: 31

I felt like I was a pretty average applicant (average EC's & minimal shadowing), and I applied fairly late in the cycle (submitted my primaries in September & completed all my secondaries by the end of October). Because of this (and my general naivety about the whole process) I applied to 23 schools (all DO) not knowing what kind of chances I would have. Thankfully, I was just being overly cautious and paranoid, and everything turned out fine!

Applications: 23 schools (all DO)
Interview Invitations: 11 schools
Interviews attended: 3 (cancelled the other 8)
Acceptances: 3
Will be attending: AZCOM!
