Hey everyone, so I am a Psychology Major with a minor in Chemistry. I graduated HS with my AA and currently am a Junior at a state school.
My GPA isn't too great, I currently have a 3.6 and this semester was certainly not my best.

However, I have a few Extra Curriculars. I have a few hundred clinical hours volunteering at a local hospital and Hospice. I was historian for Phi Theta Kappa, volunteered with Habitat, and did research. I have also shadowed a few doctors and I am a lifeguard and swim instructor.

This semester I interned at a Genetics Counseling clinic, started my own organization, did some research, and TA'd for Anatomy. I also tutor on the side.
I plan to graduate next fall 2015 and take the MCAT in the spring of 2016 and apply to Med School Summer of 2016.I know my GPA is not the best and this semester I expect to get all B's and 1 A, is there hope for me? I am seriously thinking of getting my masters before entering Medical School, I will still only be 22 with my Masters Degree. Any Advice is appreciated.

1. Please do really well on your MCAT for a shot at MDs

2. Seems like you're getting overwhelmed with your ECs. Possibly cut down a few to better your GPA. Your GPA is something you work on while at college. ECs can be done outside of college.

3. Consider DO

4. Masters is $$. So are post-bacs. Masters programs are specific and you need to be interested in them and be able to justify that interest to adcoms as the director of your masters program is req to write you a letter. Post baccs are meant to get your GPA up, master's not so much as they are for the graduate academician path. Having said theat, there are masters programs designed to help the premed with a sub-par GPA. I think boston u has someting like that.

Also try to get a publication.

I think your exact competitiveness depends a lot on the MCAT. If you get a great score you can apply MD. Otherwise your GPA is still good and you can probably apply to DO programs assuming you don't completely bomb it.

3.6 is competitive for MD with a good MCAT. For some states like TX and IL, you're in pretty good shape, for others (CA), maybe not so much. You should also be applying DO as well: I have a 3.6 or so for my GPA and a 37 MCAT and I'll be applying to a few DO programs I like.

It's important that you nail this test. You want 33+.

You would be better off staying an extra year in college or doing undergrad postbac work after graduating than by entering a traditional masters degree program, if your purpose is GPA repair. Few med schools consider a hard science masters GPA as they are widely felt to be grade inflated. OTOH, if your GPA is fine and you want access to research and teaching opportunities, you might consider a funded masters so you aren't out the extra cash (though these will be longer than just one year).
