Can I submit LOR's to AACOMAS before I am ready to apply? I am taking the MCAT in April and my post-bacc will be finished in the summer but I plan on applying in May. If a professor writes a LOR today, how would he/she go about submitting it to AACOMAS? I know I am not supposed to see the letter and therefor the professor cannot send me the letter but what should I tell him/her to do with the letter once it is written? Also, Should I go ahead and start my application now and just resubmit my transcript after this semester and then again after the summer semester or should I wait till I recieve my MCAT score to start on my app.

I'm sorry to bother you guys with such a basic question but I've been researching this question all day and I can't seem to find a clear answer.

-Thanks in advance!

I'm sure there is someone around here who can tell you what to do on the AACOMAS site, but I never bothered with their letter service. I used Interfolio, and had all of my letter writers submit letters that way. It was fairly inexpensive (I can't remember the exact amount) and way more convenient, in my opinion.

Can someone keep their LOR in interfolio for more than a year and then submit it? I graduated but won't be applying until next summer.

Yup! And I believe they keep your letters for a very long time (if not indefinitely?) even if you stop paying. You just have to reactivate your account.

Did you wait long to use them or did you apply the same year you got your LOR? If I am holding them off until next summer I guess it would be a good idea to tell the LOR writer not to include the date? I'm assuming medical schools would want recent LOR..?

I applied this cycle and 2 of my letters were from 2013 or 2014. The dates never came up at all so I don't think it's a big deal to have them include the date!

Mine happened to be from the same year that I applied, but I agree with @cjcarter.

Did you also use interfolio? And do you know if the date were on the LOR that you got? I'm going to ask one of my LOR writer soon so I just want to make sure I know what to tell her to write

I did use interfolio. The dates were listed by at least one of my professors because I asked for updated letters when I didn't end up applying last cycle and one said they wanted to change the date. Plus when the letters are uploaded to your dossier, it will have the dates they were uploaded so schools may be able to see it there as well, not completely sure though.

Edit: just have them mention you are applying for the 2018-2019 cycle (or whenever you are applying) or something like that if it is worrying you.

I'm only worried if the medical schools see the date they might not think it is as valuable compare to having a recent one. But I will definitely mention about when I am applying.

all my letters got dealt with and uploaded by my premed adviser. Definitely convenient. You sure you dont have that at your school?

They have a pre-health committee at my old Uni but I did my post bacc classes at a state college right by my work which did not have a pre-health committee.
