Where should I go on Vacation...?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Come to NYC. Check these places out...

Peter Lugar steak house (for 2, costs about 100... but you will get the best damn steak there is) in Brooklyn, NYC

Paul's burger at St Marks, NYC (20 for two people) followed by continential pub (10 shots for 5 dollars...), and then from there, you can either do any fine NYC pubs where you can try out a lot of good beer/ale/lager/etc, or wine places or visit Jap town at get some yakitori.

Harvest Buffet in Flushing NYC (50 for two people including tips and tax for dinner) or Minados or whatever it is called in Manhattan followed by shopping in Flushing or 34th street.

Tacos at any Elmhurst Joints (dirt cheap...), best time to get it is right off the plane before going to your hotel since Elmhurst is near Laguardia airport.

Le veau D'or (romantic okay pricing French restaraunt where the menu hasn't changed since it opened in early 1900s. The stuff you find here will be extinct soon once this place closes. These are the stuff you see in old French cookbooks) followed by walk with wife to Central park.

There are also great ice cream places (Ciao bella, etc) and bakeries (Magnolias), Italian pastries in little Italy (Ferrars), etc.

Check out Museum of Natural history plus IMAX space show, Intrepid, and Museum of Modern arts, Lower East side Tenement museum, and MTA transit Museum.

Dont forget the Bronx Zoo or the Aquarium followed by Coney Island (a few fun rides) and original nathans hot dogs.

If you want, feel free to take the bus out to the Hamptons for some good old fishing/fresh sea food, wine tasting/fresh grown food, and scenary. Hamptons is NYC's version of Napa Valley plus good eastern fishing.

Avoid the usual tourists areas... ie Statue of Liberty.

If you need more selling, I can go on forever.

I 4th NYC.

You can get a weekly unlimited metrocard and go everywhere, not just manhattan. Although in Manhattan you'll see the most interesting subway performances.

Things unmentioned:
-Boat Basin Cafe all the way west on 79th st for beer, burgers, and water view.
-Sripraphai in Woodside. Expect to wait in line.
-Beer Garden in Astoria. Czech import beers, must try Staropramen.
-Junior's Cheesecake in Flatbush. Do not order food, just go for the cheesecake.
-Joe Shanghai water dumplings in Flushing. Expect to wait in line.
-Jacques Torres Chocolate on Hudson or Amsterdam.
-CHICKEN & RICE at 53rd & 6th!!!! 8pm to 4am. Expect to wait in line, even at 3am.
-Shake Shack at 23rd & Madison or Citifield! Expect to wait in line.

I would not go shopping at Flushing, but maybe at 34th st. You can take your wife to a sample sale!! Designers sell their samples for dirt cheap!! You can find cute things for $10 from amateurs or you can get Jimmy Choo's for under $200. NYC has no tax on clothes under $110.

You can haggle in Chinatown. It's fun! $10 item, you can easily get for $7, if you're be bold. If your wife already has a designer handbag on her or looks interested, she may be invited to the secret hidden attics where they sell fake Louis's Fandi's, Hermes, etc.

And yes, museums, broadway shows, comedy clubs, galore. If you come between 9/8-20 you can try www.20at20.com

Unless I want to stay at the airport, it's $250+ a night in NYC. **** that.

You are a pharmacist you can afford it! 😛
Besides I paid almost $400 dollars a night for hotel rooms when I was interviewing at NYC and Columbia two years ago. It wasn't even a vacation. 🙁

You don't have to stay in Manhattan. You can find a lot of motels in Queens near the subway. There are so many inexpensive things to do in NYC! Most of the stuff I mentioned previously are the cheapo but legendary jems of NYC. Like 20 for 20, sample sales, chicken & rice, etc. The Met and the National History museums are practically free, you can pay $1 if you please. Use your wifey's student ID on everything else for a discount. That's how me and the bf roll.

I think you should just come to Bama to see WVU fail. Hah... feel free to rub that in my face later when it doesn't go as I predict. I'll be somewhere in the state throwing a fit, I'm sure.
