Hi SDN,

I would like some input on my school list. EC's and LOR's aren't anything to make me stand out, but they're good (volunteering/shadowing/etc.) I have a 3.81( science) and 3.8 (cumulative). My MCAT is a 25: PS-8, BS-11 VR-6.

Here's my list:
CUSOM (Campbell University in North Carolina)
MUCOM (Marian Univeristy in Indianapolis IN)
KYCOM (University of Pikeville in Kentucky)
LECOM-E & LECOM-B (Lake Erie in Erie PA and Brandston Florida)
ROWAN-SOM (Rowan Univeristy in New Jersey)
ACOM (Alabama College in Alabama)
PNWU (Pacific Northwest University in Washington)
KCUMB (Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences’ in Missouri)
LMU (Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee)
WVSOM (West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in West Virginia)
WCUCOM (William Carey University in Mississippi)
NSU-COM (Nova Southeastern University in Florida)
PCOM and PCOM-GA (Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Georgia and Philly)
VCOMs (Edward Via College of Ostephathic Medicine in Virginia, South Carolina, and Auburn)
ATSU-SOMA (A.T. Still University in Arizona)
TUNCOM (Touro University California in Nevada)
RVU-COM (Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Colorado)
NYITCOM (New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York)
WesternU/COMP (Western University of Health Sciences in California and Oregon)
Burrell COM (New Mexico University COM in New Mexico – Opening for 2016)
Touro-NY Middletown (Turo University COM in NY)

So I'm basically applying everywhere haha and I realize a lot of these schools are a reach. Even if my chances are slim to none, I would like to apply everywhere on here unless an auto reject awaits me with my MCAT score.

Any input/similar success/rejection stories would be awesome.

The VR may hurt you if you apply to CUSOM and PCOM-philly. Also avoid the schools which like high MCAT such as Touro-Ca, Touro-Ny, AZCOM, and CCOM. However, you should be good for most schools. Just avoid the ones that take a high amount of instate applicants as well. Good luck

I suggest the following. Add in regional school if you live near them, like PacNW if you live in OR.

PCOM-GA (

Apply to ATSU-KCOM. How come nobody ever recommends this school? 😕 It really is the best school!

GO ATSU-KCOM Class of 2019!!!!

Your MCAT is in line with our average here at WCUCOM. GPA's are above average. We've got a pretty legit regional bias towards the Gulf South, but we do have quite a few from outside the south. Check us out when you get a chance!

I think you're doing the best thing you can do, applying broadly! Go for it!

Thanks so much for the input everyone! I've learned so much on here.

@Goro - I will be applying to all of the schools on your modified list. Money for the application process isn't a a concern, so I might add a few more as well. With that in mind, would I have any sort of shot at your school (wherever that may be...)?

My school doesn't pre-screen, and so we'd interview you, and then reject you, alas.

Darn. Welp, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. hahah

@Goro - Why do you say that OP would be rejected after the interview? If OP were to get an interview at your school, wouldn't the final decision be based on his/her interviewing skills rather than the MCAT score. If the applicant's stats were too low to begin with, why would they even get an interview?

Im thinking because of the verbal.

Our Dean likes high MCAT scores, so he'll overrule the Adcom.

I've noticed that too. I think it is probably due to the location. I don't think Kirksville is for everyone. It is a great place for me, but I am used to rural. It is probably quite a system shock for people used to an urban metropolis.

We hate it too, but the wily old Admissions dean's mandate is different from ours. He just wants to get warm bodies into seats; we actually have to teach them.
do you often see your dean outright reject people due to low MCAT even when the adcom says yes?

OP, your sGPA and cGPA are solid, that alone can help you gain some interview offers given that other parts of your application are strong. However, with competition increasing at osteopathic medical schools, the doors are slowly closing for those with sub-26 MCAT scores.

I'm pretty much in the exact same boat as OP. We've got almost identical stats.

...if a 25 is too low and a 27 is above the dean's threshold at goro's school, it really sucks we couldn't pull at least one point higher on test day...

Oh well. I think we both have a chance to get in somewhere and prove an MCAT score isn't going to dictate the kind of physicain we will become.

@Goro - What if an applicant has an exceptionally high GPA paired with a 25 MCAT? How does the dean view that and how likely would he be to overrule an acceptance decision in this case?
