I have searched this website, and I seem to have the opposite problems with stats. I am so confused, nervous, and neurotic about figuring out where to apply, for fears of not getting in

I went to Ivy League undergrad, and postbacc at not Ivy LEague.
3.7 overall GPA from undergrad
3.46 BCPM gpa
3.9 gpa from postbacc (did over half prereccs in undergrad before i was sesrious about medicine)
28O MCAT 10PS 10VR 8BS
the 8 in BS worries me.

great LOR, lots of shadowing, some research, humanities major and well rounded EC, including music, film, etc.

where are good places to apply where I have a shot at getting in?
I am from CA

My gpa matches most top 20 schools, but my MCAT obviously does not.
I just dont know how to mix in top 20s with UCs with so called safetys (although i dont really think anywhere is a safety?)

I am so sorry i know so many people ask, I just became so muddled in the amount of schools and am havinga terrible time figuring out how to narrow down. I am down to 40 now!!!! (awful i know)

OP-

Bunch of ways to attack this. If you've got the money for 40, maybe you could give it a shot. I'd try to find some other intangibles other than score averages...do you wanna live in the city or country? East or west?

As for CA schools, it sounds like you have low-level chances. I'm not CA resident, but the rumor is 28 (with 8 in one section) won't take. As for safety schools, look for those that may like the fact you're non-traditional, and maybe some that have MCAT aves like yours.

good luck.

thanks dc,

there are so many schools in Chicago and Philadelphia, that I am trying to narrow those down. Any suggestions??

Thanks sooo much!

Okay...you'll hear various things.

The Pritzker (sp?) school in Chicago is rumored to be a "safety", but because of that, folks like you and I apply HEAVILY there. So maybe their stat averages are lower, but with 10,000 applicants (literally), you chances do drop. Ditto that message for Drexel and Jefferson in Philly area.

I've got no Chi. schools, but do have Jefferson and Penn State (not in Philly). 28 is a nice score. You've got options.

Pritzker (Uof Chicago) a safety  You're just busting his balls right? UChicago is one of the best med. schools in the country. You've got to look elsewhere for safety.

I had pretty similar stats. A little higher GPA and MCAT score (~3.78 overall undergrad, 3.55 BCPM, 29O), but pretty close. I grew up in CA, but live in IN right now, which definately helped. But don't worry too much. You'll definately get interviews. I luckily got into IU right away, but I ended up turning down about 12-15 interviews. I applied to ~25, flat rejected from about 3-4 (vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Univ. of Washington) finished about 18 secondaries.

Some good schools to look at are:
Wake Forest
NYMC
Finch
Tufts
Chicago
Drexel
Loyola
SLU
University of Cinn.

The schools that I reached up into the top ~20 or so and didn't get interviews at were:
Pitt, Virginia, Northwestern

msharo,
thanks so much, that is really helpful.

has anyone else with my stats been successful at others places?

also, which chicago school did you mean?

thanks! 🙂

I meant University of Chicago (Pritzker)- maybe a little reach, but not too much.

Einstein, UVM, and Albany tend to have quite a few of Californians. Creighton loves nontrads. And if big cities are your thang, I'd also throw in USC, NYU, Sinai, Jefferson, BU, GW, and Georgetown. Don't forget to apply to some reach schools, you just never know, great postbac gpa by the way. Good luck!

thanks babyface! 😀
