Hi,

I am very interested in learning more about the DO profession, but I do not know where to start. Are the schools listed under the AAMC school list or are they separate? Also, what is the difference between a DO and MD?

Thanks For Your Time

Information about osteopathic schools can be found at www.aacom.org. I suggest you spend some time perusing the site as well as SDN to gather some more information about D.O. programs. In addition to that, I highly recommend "The DOs: Osteopathic Medicine in America" by Norman Gevitz. This book was very informative and helped me prepare for my interview.

You should also try to shadow a D.O., not only for the experience but also because there are some osteopathic schools that require a letter of recommendation from a practicing osteopathic physician.

Hands down the best source for the history and philosophy of osteopathic medicine is "The DOs" by Norman Gevitz.
