I've been accepted to several MD schools so please forgive my ignorance (honestly I didn't know what an osteopath was before SDN). I'm helping my friend compile a list of schools to apply to... and so I want to know - which schools are considered the "best" in the DO educational universe? schools which have the best combination of facilities, reputation, education, etc... I tried searching for a ranking, but couldn't find one online.

sorry if this is a FAQ.

I wouldn't be qualified to say which one is the "best" but if I was your friend I would start by applying to the schools that have been established the longest (i.e. DMU, KCUMB, Kirksville, Pikesville, etc).

There is no rank for DO school.
The best school will be different from one to other.
for me the best one was VCOM for other it may not.
I believe that the older schools are not always the best schools.

It depends on what your friend is looking for but if I had to list the top DO schools my list would be. TCOM, MSU, PCOM and WVSOM. That would be the top schools. But everyone will probably tell you something different.

Take a look at US News.

TCOM, MSU-COM, OSU-COM, and others are frequently ranked.

There are some links in the FAQ.

It would help if your friend had specific needs in a medical school other than being ranked on a list. There is really no definitive answer on this.

Location, board pass rate, cost, class size, gradin system, research, specialty training, fellowships, etc.

Yes and WVSOM is frequently ranked as one of the top in rural medicine. It all depends on what his friend wants to do, however. I second what the other posters said, the ranking will differ for each person. I do not follow US News and can only give a ranking for the schools that I have been to. 1) DMU,
2) PCOM, 3) WVSOM, 4) VCOM, 5) LECOM-ERIE

It will really depend on your friend's preference.
