Did a search, same question has been asked a few times but not clear what people think.

My school suggests Marks Basic Medical Biochemistry as a "required" text http://www.amazon.com/Marks-Basic-M...022X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318897836&sr=8-1

I have Lippincott's Biochemistry and Voet's Biochemistry from undergrad. http://www.amazon.com/Biochemistry-...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1318898436&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-...=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1318898456&sr=1-2

Anyone actually use Marks? Everyone loves Lippincott's on here. I am thinking about sticking with it and not buying Marks. Anyone have an opinion either way?

You guys use textbooks? My professors recommended voet/voet and marks, but i don't think anybody is reading it.

So far, course notes for content + Lippincott's for pictures is working really well for me. I'm trying to find a question book. Lippincott's has a qbook--i'm wondering if it's worth the buy.

#1: Lecture notes
#2: Basic review book, Lippincott's is pretty beastly for a review book but is good. RR biochem is also pretty good
#3: Textbooks are useless

Let's face it, we have too much to learn and too little time to learn it in.

Lippincott's will be fine for you. This is a case where the exact book you chose doesn't matter that much.

I think <10% use textbooks.

Rapid Review Biochem if you need a textbook.

It's just the facts in a clear and concise format.

I used BRS Biochemistry and did well.

I was a big textbook user for undergrad, now not so much. I only use them if i need some clarification on a given topic. When i do need to look something up, i use either voet or stryer.

One more vote for Lippincott's ... their two pages on competitive/uncompetitive inhibitors and L-B plots was more helpful than my professor's entire lecture ... Plus, if you're a visual learner, I think all the flowcharts and diagrams are much easier to follow than chunks of text

Just picked up Lippincotts Q&A book for biochem. It looks decent for the boards, but not for this class (no shelf). I think I'm going to stick to PreTest for my question book.

Maybe the Q&A book will be useful for those taking the shelf.
