I have ruled it down to USN and/or Pacific(Oregon). However I was just made aware of LECOM (which has less-expensive tuition). What are everyone's thoughts on this?

gsinccom - I am so disappointed with you - I thought you knew Pacific holds it down when it comes to 3 yrs... hahah just playing

- to be honest - you cant really count Pacific in with the other 2. Pacific is not accredited, whereas USN and LECOM are. There is another school called Appalachia (requires PCAT) that is also pre-accredited and in the 3 yr genre.

- between USN and LECOM - I would have to give it to USN only from what I have read in posts on this forum. You see very few negative posts about USN's program. Most (and I am sure someone else would have better info) seem to be happy attending it - on the flip side, I have read more than one post that included negative comments for LECOM.

-personally - I will applying to Pacific in addition to the Florida schools. I fell in love with the school and the staff. The personal touch does it for me... anyone else?

Aboveliquidice,

always appreciate your insights.

This is the list of 3 year programs: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=1700941&postcount=9

I am only interested in the non-pcat requiring 3 year programs(and a few of the 3 years, Appalachia and Midwestern included, do require the PCAT) and those 3 year programs that don't give preference to in-state applicants (why I ruled out Albany and others). LECOM just popped on my radar cause tuition is quite a bit less than USN and Pacific. I don't think Pacific will have any problem gaining accreditation so that isn't really a factor I add when weighing pros and cons of each option.

anyone else care to share their opinions on this subject?

Thank you.

Did you guys know that if you got accepted to Pacific, and decided to attend that school, and if for some reason they fail to receive accredation or something goes wrong for the fall 2007 year, that you would not get a refund for tuition. Students that entered fall 2006, however, would get a full refund.

thanks for your comments on this thread. Would you please provide proof for your comments? Also, I see the odds of Pacific being denied accreditation to be very very minimal.

anyone else care to comment on this subject. I'll remind you the topic. Which is the best three year program, in your opinion? USN is the best school lol...according to the post i read from Belowthemean. U go there for 3 years only u become Pharm.D and u get a job with the same pay as others who went to UCSF. sounds good!

I don't think they'll be denied either, but that's just something that applicants should know if they're applying to other pre-accredited schools. I live in Oregon and I was told this by Portland pharmacists.

anyone else care to comment on this subject. anyone out there that is applying or has previously applied to LECOM, PACIFIC, and USN that can weigh in on this? I'll remind you the topic. Why isn't University of Pacific (in Cali, no pcat required) on the list? I would like too see how UOP would hold up against other 3-year-program schools?

I was just about to mention UOP as well. Maybe it's cuz were from cali, we know more bout it? 😀 I don't think it's public either, right? If so, there shouldn't be any in-state preference.

I didn't put UOP in the equation yet cause I like Pacific and USN better. Please state why you like UOP over the others and maybe they'll be in the equation. Has anyone applied to UOP, LECOM, Pacific, and USN or been accepted to all four? How would you compare them? What are the pros/cons of each?

If you are looking for 3 years school not requiring PCAT and follows block system then there are only two schools - USN and Pacific U. LECOM and UOP do not follow block system.

Whether you prefer block system or traditional system is a matter of personal choice.Personally I prefer block system over traditional system for 3 yrs program.I believe block system is much better suited for accelerated programs.

As far as USN and Pacific U is concerned, both schools are very similar and I had a tough time deciding which program to join as they have their own pros and cons. USN has a established and reputed program that is fully accredited but Pacific's financial package was much superior. Also I prefer warm/hot weather over 8 months of rain.

It would be fair to say that USN has a great pharmacy program and Pacific's pharmacy program has potential to become a great program. So its matter of personal choice. You should choose the program and location that best fits you and your family.

thanks a bunch for your comments. USN might be a better fit for me as far as location. Will you explain the following: Pacific's financial package was much superior, please? It appears that USN and Pacific are more expensive than LECOM and UoP? Any thoughts on this?

Thank you.

In Pacific University I was offered subsidized and unsubsidized stafford loans and even my gradplus loan which I applied to cover some living expenses had a very attractive rate.USN is not eligible for federal loans therefore you will have to take private loans which in my case has a very high interest rate. But I still feel the place and school is worth it and I am totally satisfied/happy with my choice.

As far as LECOM and UOP is concerned, yes they are cheaper then USN and Pacific, LECOM being the cheapest of the two.Again you have to look at your situation. If you can afford it, would you rather study in Las Vegas or Erie which has closest big city at about 100 miles ? Is there someone relocating with you and would require a job ? Again you will have to analyze your own unique situation and then take a decision.

anyone have any thoughts on the benefits of LECOM and/or UOP over USN and/or Pacific other than cost?

as far as loans go if you have a good credit rating than Pac isn't all that much better than USN is it? since the U.S. govt. just raised rates on loans I've heard that a lot of private loaners are meeting the feds rates...
yes USN currently can't match the subsidized loan but that is very minimal amount of your total cost that you can actually borrow.

thoughts on this?

LECOM, because it's cheaper. It's only a few hours up I-79 from me, too. That means you'll be cool by osmotic association. Western PA is about my favorite place on Earth because the people are so REAL. They are blue-collar and as unpretentious as they come. It's also close to Canada. It's between LECOM and Duquense for the 2nd best school in Western PA, Pitt, of course, being the best. This is based on my experience with kids from these schools that have come through MoTo.

thanks for your thoughts.

how do those applying to USN and Pacific justify paying the increased cost of attendance?

thanks again.

Since these schools do not require PCat, i'm better they are extremely hard to get accepted into?

Again - I'm not terribly concerned about how much I have to pay - I will probably end up in the military again anyways... Which will cover around 120 of it. I think you choose Pacific and USN over any other because of the block system. I have gone through military education - and it is in the same format. It allows you to learn more indepth knowledge faster. Block style teaching is tried and true... and I am definitely banking on it as the road I most want to travel through pharm school. Oh yeah - and the people are great (how many times have I said that?)
