I'm a California resident so that means most of my schools that I will be applying to are OOS since Western and Touro are the only 2 California schools.

I am using this website to figure out average MCAT scores (although many aren't fully updated to the current year): http://osteopathicmedstudent.com/osteopathic-schools/mcat-and-gpa-statistics/
1) What are some other resources that you guys used to figure out the most current average MCAT scores for accepted students?

2) More importantly in my case how do you guys figure out which schools are favorable for OOS students? I know for MD schools, the MSAR book is really helpful in figuring this stuff out, but is there such a book for DO schools?

3) I guess this is more opinionated...just from your knowledge which schools have a strong regional bias?

Thanks everyone!

AACOM has something similar to MSAR: http://www.aacom.org/resources/bookstore/cib/Pages/default.aspx

click on the "Download the 2012 Osteopathic Medical College Information Book" link and you will get the PDF version. This tells you information about each osteopathic medical school (mission statement, pre-reqs, interview format, etc). It DOES NOT tell you the average GPA/MCAT for each college, but I find that you can pretty much find that out by going onto their websites.

Good luck!

i posted this in another thread.

honestly, it would probably be easier to list which schools favor applicants for their state. as most DO schools are private, and therefore do not have a preference.

OSUCOM
TCOM
definitly have a preference and I believe are only allowed to take 10% of each class from OOS as they are state funded. Schools that are public have other measures of weeding out of state applicants.

For instance.
WVSOM
MSUCOM

these schools will take some OOS applicants but deter them by having high OOS tuition.

OUCOM does it differently by forcing OOS applicants to sign a contract stating that 5 years after residency you will be forced to practice in the state of ohio.

Other schools such as:
PCOM Pa
PCOM georgia
UNECOM
NYCOM
WCUCOM
VCOM Va and SC
will take out of state applicants but have a regional bias
for PCOM PA you should be from the tristate area
PCOM georgia, it would help if you were from the south
UNECOM takes most of its students from maine, and i think 20% from tristate areas and 10% from anywhere. something like that
NYCOM you should be from tristate
William carey you should be from the south and it preferably in their state
VCOM prefers applicants from the appalachian region

schools that do not favor applicants from their home state or have a regional prference
LECOM all three campuses
touros all three campuses
LMU DCOM
Western
Nova
KCOM both campuses
midwestern both campuses
UMDNJ SOM will take oos applicants but with higher than average stats and they do favor NJ residents
KCUMB
DMU COM

thats all I can think of for right now. your best bet is to look at each individual schools websites. again this is all anecdotal but this is just what I have found.

Thank you!! That was a very informative post.

I have a bs in biology with a 3.15 cGPA and 3.0 sGPA. I'm taking the MCAT this august but have been getting 24 and 25s so far. My course hasn't ended yet so my score will improve once my prep class is over. I'm looking to apply to DO schools this year and will go anywhere in the states possibly Caribbean for MD in case. Any suggestions where I should apply?

Why is it so HARD to find something like this? (this data is like from 2005)
