I am taking cell bio, chem II, and physics I in the falland want to get started studying early. Which class do you guys think is the hardest of these 3?

None, chill out man and enjoy your summer.

Never taken it myself, but I'd probably say cell bio, since that type of stuff is usually most challenging to me.

well since i was never aware cell bio was a prereq for med school, i'm going to go with chem II since that was my lowest grade in all my prereqs.

you guys reply too fast ;P , now go vote.

I think Chem II...I kinda struggled in GenChem...but like mongrel said, relax and enjoy your summer...you'll regret it during the year when you have 3 exams in one week and you don't have time to relax!

non of them lol  . it really depends on the professors you have. goodluck

I haven't taken all of them, but I know at my school Physics 2 is the hardest. I'm dreading sophomore year. :scared:

I'd say cell bio, because I've heard it's rough. However, it all depends on the teacher. Physics was easy because I had a great teacher, and so was biochem.

However, cell bio requires a lot of memorization (once again, from what I've heard)...maybe you should start looking through it to make sure you have the basics?

depends on the individual. I sucked bad at general chemistry, but did fine in organic and upper level bios and physics.

Hi Army! I'm curious to know why (in your opinion) you did better at Organic over General!

🙂
Thanks for your thoughts!

I'm not ArmyBound, but I can tell you why I had an easier time with Organic than Gen Chem -- MATH! I hate math. I do it because I have to do it, but if there's a class without math, chances are I'll like that class a lot more.

Gen Chem requires a lot of calculations while Organic is a totally different animal. You have to know the concepts to do well in Organic (don't try to memorize or else you might eventually screw yourself up with a more challenging problem), but once you learn the concepts -- which aren't difficult -- you can reason your way through many problems you might not have seen before.

I know Organic gets slaughtered on these boards, so I guess it depends on your professor. I had an amazing professor who really tried to pound the concepts into our heads. I'm in Organic II now and I made sure to sign up for the same professor for just that reason.

Physics. Only calculus-based physics available and I really hate calculus. Non-calc physics would have been much easier. But oh well.

Definitely O Chem. Physics is interesting and fun, General Chem is nice and straight-forward, Bio is just a lot of memorization. O Chem, on the other hand, makes you work. 👎

This will be different for everyone, though, so you need to figure out your own strengths and weaknesses and go from there. I love math, and get concepts really quickly, but I'm a huge procrastinator, and wasn't willing to study much in undergrad. That made O Chem hell. If you're good about studying things in a timely manner, and actually do the recommended problems and reading, O Chem probably won't be so bad. Again, it all depends on what you're good at.

general chemistry only because it was freshman year and I had not learned how to actually "study"...luckily I pulled A's in it.

In my opinion, overall, I would rank them as physics>genchem>>ochem>general biology in terms of their difficulty

in four years at UCSD, the lowest grade I ever received (in any class) was in gen chem C (we had three quarters because quarter system)... all that stuff about voltaic cells and anodes and cathodes, and junk, i still cannot do that stuff!

Exactly.

Physics was the hardest for me, math doesn't come easily for me . . . I seem to always make some small mistake in a long calculation to make it go wrong. Some of the concepts were difficult for me. For people who tend to be more math inclined its a cakewalk though so it really does depend on the individual.
