Hi,
I want to know where I should apply.
I live in Connecticut.
My overall GPA is a 3.0 and my other
GPA is a 3.0.
My science GPA is a 2.7.
Over the last ~100 credits I have a 3.99, my
first ~100 credits were a 1.91.
My MCAT was a 10,9,10,O.
I applied to allo programs in 99 and was not
accepted. I didn't apply to osteo programs
at that point because osteo application
includes pharmacy courses into gpa. I did
badly in pharmacy courses. I have retaken
some basic science courses and some new
courses to bolster my science gpa up to
~2.7. It was previously ~2.2.
I am thinking UNE, LECOM,CCOM,DMU,Kirksville,
WVSOM....are these good choices for my
situation...or would other choices be more
suitable.
Also, my medical experience has been in
a group home enviroment. I also plan to
shadow my father in law, and also his friend
who is a DO.
I thank anyone for comments or suggestions.
Tim.

If you plan on entering medical school in the fall of 2001, you better get your butt in gear. I assume you have you aacomas already in.

Best of luck. Your stats seem ok for osteopathic school. Now you must be able to demonstrate your interest and understanding of osteopathic medicine.

I plan on applying in July 01.
Thanks,
Tim.

Do you want to stay in the East Coast. Make sure you get those applications in early. Your apps should be sent June 1st not July 1st.

Hi,

WVSOM would be a good choice with what you have shown grade-wise and MCAT-wise. Have you visited there? It is in a pretty, but RURAL town. You will spend the first two years there, then you will have requirement to fulfill of 3 months in a rural WV location, but after that you can almost go where ever you want.

Still it can be a culture shock for some. I used to live in CT myself, in Hartford then Vernon/Manchester area. If you can, go visit the school first and see how you like it. They should let you sit in on some classes if you ask. Good luck!

Billie, MS-III
WVSOM

P.S. PCSOM might be another choice, though I don't know how their GPA/MCAT requirements are. Maybe PikevilleMedStudent can tell us

Hey Beyonder--

Are you aware that the AACOMAS actually *replaces* grades of classes you have re-taken with your new grades (as opposed to averaging them, like the AMCAS)?

I filled out both this past year, and my AACOMAS gpa was quite a bit higher for this very reason. Your gpa may be higher than you think. With this said, I think you have a good shot at any DO school, especially if you can provide a strong letter from a DO.

You have 100 hours of straight A's, and a 29 MCAT? They will notice this. I would also include NYCOM in my list if I were you (although you will have to rotate in the Bronx).

By the way, where in CT are you from? I live in Alaska now, but I grew up in the tiny town of Burlington.

Hello,
Nanook I live in E Hartford.
It is actually East of the Connecticut river,
from the standpoint of Hartford.
Did you get into a do school?
Tim.
