I figure I'll get accepted to my state school, but what are my chances at getting in to Nebraska, creighton, or Minnesota? Shoot, throw in Harvard for s's and g's.

My DAT was 25AA/25TS/30PAT. 3.63 sci and 3.73 overall GPAs. Over 100 shadowing hours, college athlete, good volunteering (arbitrary, ik)

Nebraska doesn't admit many out of staters that aren't states such as South Dakota, North Dakota, and Idaho I believe. Which leaves around 8-10 spots. Thoughts?

Aim for the skies my friend. I'd Hate to see those stats not abused.

Even at a school that only has 8 spots open for me? Man I hope so.

Btw nice Real logo. I'm an arsenal fan, how'd you feel about the Ozil trade? (Bale is nice tho!)

Nebraska feels like a waste of time. I only applied to Oklahoma (OOS) because I was born there and it's my alma mater, so I'm as in-state as an OOS gets. Slim pickins OOS really. What about Marquette (though you may be too late for them)? There are no guarantees unfortunately. Especially if your state school is competitive. I'd give anything to get into any school, but make sure you're being realistic with your choices. Unless you can afford infinite applications.

You really don't think I have a chance at Nebraska?

Well of course you have a chance, you appear to be a well-qualified applicant. I thought this was a "where should I apply" thread, and I don't know what your residency is or how that affects anything. All I was saying is to not put too much stock in schools with exceptionally low OOS acceptance rates. You always hope it will be you, but the odds are deeply against you and there are too many things you cannot control.

For example, I had to apply for Texas residency this year at both my college and for the dental schools. I was lucky enough to be accepted as a resident for both, but if I hadn't been I would've written them off because it's around 15-1 IS/OOS acceptance and even with my stats I'm pushing my luck.

Why do some schools have such low OOS vs IS ratios? Like why can't everyone have an equal shot based on stats and not on state lol?

Texas has 26,000,000 people in it. They graduate 300 dentists a year. They need them to stay. Also, public money is geared towards residents of that state, the people who pay taxes. These are public institutions. Notice that private schools have no such loyalty.

Because some schools are private which is OOS friendly and public schools which are not that OOS friendly. Something to do with how they're funded or something. Public schools get more money to them from the state when having more in resident from their state.

Fair enough. Nonetheless, I got an interview last year so the increased score won't hurt at least. Thanks for the advice though.
