Which state resident?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is a tricky situation. I know there is a way to make this happen, because I was in the same as you with my residency. However, you don't get to determine your residency, AACOMAS will do that based on the information you put in. If I were you I would do the New York residency. They have a ton of medical schools.

I'd do Montana. Montana doesn't have a medical school and so other states accept their students. UW is a big one. If you do Montana then just apply to UW for MD regardless if you apply to any other MDs. A person with a 24 from Idaho got into UW last year. Saw it on sdn so who knows if it's true but UW does participate in WWAMI

Or do Montana strictly for MD app just to apply to UW then do whatever for AACOMAS

I would read up before considering this a viable option, OP. OP mentioned he only wanted to do DO, therefore the WWAMI collaboration doesn't fit him. However, New York residency could help him/her out when applying to schools such as PCOM, NYIT, and UNE-COM, and possibly more. The decision is up to you, but for reasons above and the fact that almost all of the osteopathic medical schools except for ~6 are private, I would choose NY for residency. Private medical schools may have some sort of regional bias here and there, but they aren't required to meet the criteria public state DO schools are required to meet with taking in-state residents.

What do you mean by AACOMAS chooses for you? Which information would lead them to choose that? For example, I have lived in one state (X) for 15+ years and went to highschool and undergrad here. However, I spent summers in another state (divorced parents) and plan to relocate to that state (Y) after graduation in May. I will then be applying once I'm in that state (Y) with full intentions of staying there. Can you shed some light on which state I'll be a resident of given that I have an apartment, drivers license in the state (Y)? I ask this because (Y) has an instate school I'm hoping to attend.
