Speaking strictly for tuition purposes, which states allow you to establish in-state residency after a period of time (ie, 1 year)?

Dental school wise, I know for sure that UNLV allows you to establish state residency after the first year (thus lowering the cost for years 2-4). Michigan makes you pay OOS tuition for all 4 years. A colleague in a PhD program at the UC I attended was also able to establish state residency after a year of living in California. I'm not completely sure that CA dental schools allow for the same, but I assume so...

Please list the schools you attend and whether or not the state allows you to establish state residency (again, for tuition purposes). Also, how long must you live there to do so? Thanks!

There are at least two threads that already have this info. just have to search for them.

True, but the 2 helpful ones are waaay old. Most of the other threads talked about whether or not moving to another state would increase their chances.

From the 2 useful threads, so far:
-IS tuition after one year: California, New York, Nevada, North Carolina
-OOS tuition all four years: Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin

Anyone know of more?

At my Maryland interview I spoke to two OOS students who said they received in-state tuition after one year. They said the key was to make every effort to prove your residency: change your driving license, hold on to bills to your new address, etc...

It all depends at Maryland. My brother is a 3rd year there, and he was denied residency there this year, and he has done all of the things you suggested, but then he knows people who have received it after one, or two years. He says every situation is different and it is pretty political, so i wouldn't expect it there. Other schools such as unc and uconn give you in state tuition after one year, and that is a fact.
