so i've decided to take the DAT for one last time (3rd time), and I was wondering which study schedule you guys would go with (i just want to get some opinions here)

option 1: take the test in early june with about 2 months to study (with week breaks here and there for school exams)

or

option 2: take the test in the first week of august with 4.5 straight weeks?

or i suppose another option is...studying on and off until the first week of august starting next week

the reason i'm retaking btw is for the PAT.

Take the route that gives you the most time to study for the DAT uninterupted. Good luck my friend

4.5 weeks straight. Get crack the DAT PAT too, that helped me out a lot. I also took it three times. The first two I studied intermittently or for a short time before I took it and got 18's. Third time I did it right and did well. Put the necessary time in and crush it!

For me, about five weeks of straight studying was the best approach. I would go with the uninterrupted option.

I agree with everyone. Devoting a few weeks solely to the DAT worked for me too since I didn't have school to worry about. I also agree with QuantB1 about Crack PAT (offers a ton of PAT practice problems).

Good luck

Option 2 works best, its a lot easier to focus on DAT when you're not involved in ugrad classes. I did that after I wrapped up Orgo 2 and took the DAT mid August. I submitted my app in June and in September I had interviews for October.

Option 1 is doable but its tougher and will probably yield a lower overall score.

I honestly think your stats are pretty good. As you noticed, many people with lower stats got into a couple places.

How confident are you about improving your TS 20 AA 20 DAT? As we all know, DAT could be very random.

If I were in your situation, I would rewrite the personal statement and spend time on the application. Do more dental related volunteering, too.

GOOD LUCK!

I agree I didn't notice the OPs predents profile. Its possible but unlikely to beat out a 20AA and 20TS with a retake. I don't know why you dont want to do a post-bacc or Masters program to boost the low GPA. The GPA is probably the reason you didn't get any acceptances this year. You're DAT score is above average for matriculated students and is acceptable.

im in a masters program already (finished a semester), but i have a 16 PAT score

🙁 Ye then I do suggest a retake. That sucks use CDP its really like exam, I used CDP and Achiever and got a 20 in PAT.

i honestly don't know. hopefully it'll come back to me quickly

OP, you posted a thread about your DAT scores before, right? If so, I remember advising you to retake for the PAT. However KY lover as a point. If you aren't super confident about the other sections of your DAT, it may not be worth spending the time and money. If it helps any, I can tell you that I got accepted with a not so stellar PAT score.

Honestly, I think your GPA is fine. You've done very well with your masters so far (3.75, correct?) and I'm certain that most dental schools will see that and use it to your advantage.

do the retake. a 16 Pat will probably keep you out of a lot of schools. While predents is not the most accurate source of info, check it out and you'll see that only a few people got in this year with a 16 PAT and last year there were like 30 people who got in, but you also have to filter out the URMs.

thanks for all of the advice guys. i'm hoping that by taking it the first week of august i won't be too late

Early August is fine. DAT scores only take ~2 weeks to process so it's not a big deal. Make sure you submit your application in June though.

That's fine I took mine Mid-August. Just make sure to Submit your App to AADSAS before hand so everything is processed.

Yeah I took my DAT pretty late too. Some schools start interviewing early though (like NOVA) so the later your DAT scores come in the later spots you get to interview.

I'd still go with the second option. Crack DAT PAT everyday if you're only taking it for the PAT. 🙂
