Okay, normally I wear large or extra large during my everyday life. I don't like clothes that fit tightly on me.
With that said, when I got my suit it was a 40 s. (I think that means 40 chest and s for length of arm. So I guess my "real" size is a medium.

So now I have to order a white coat. Should I go with a 40 or a 42?
The white coat is kind of like a suit, but it is kind of "wear everyday during rotations" right? I just want to be comfortable.

With a 40 in my suit, I feel like I can't move my arms all the way back without breaking a button. But for a suit, I know this is how it suppose to be.

Thanks.

I should mention that I have an anatomy coat at home. (But I guess although I have one, we still need to order the school embroidered one.) I have a Medium which I think that means 38-40. This one goes to my knee length which probably means its the right size for me. I put it on and threw my arms back behind me and broke the first button. I think that's how it supposed to be, but let me know, should I go with the M or L on this one?

Go find a uniform shop and try them on. Be sure to try on the same manufacturer as the white coat you're ordering as they are cut differently. Personally I'd go with the bigger size for comfort and so you could wear a sweater underneath.

I have to agree with Shy. To fit my arms I would have had to wear a XXXL coat with an XL body. I had to compromise with a XXL and its still very, very baggy.

Try on but don't be surprised if it isn't your normal size.

They are not as structured as a normal suit so your mobility should be better. I'd get the bigger size since you'll be cramming tons of crap into your pockets during 3rd year. You can always just take it to a tailor for the arms.

Always go on the larger side with white coats. Try them on and round up. You are far more likely to put a few pounds on than lose a ton of weight during your time. I'd get one to start out with and if you like it then you can get another at a later date and if you don't, you'll know what to look for. They aren't tremendously expensive. I think with all the patches sewed on mine was maybe 30 bucks? My nametag cost almost as much as my coat. (We have really fancy nametags)

My neck size has actually gone up an inch. I normally wear a 50 or 52 and had to go with the 54 for whitecoat. We also wear long coats, which helps with the being taller thing since the short coats have a "long" that is only to about 6'2".

Sounds like I'm going with a 42 and large. I should mention though that when I measured my chest with the power tape measure it came out to be 39.

I don't know why they always measure chest when my belly is almost as big as my chest.

is it possible to not gain weight in med school? scaredd!!!🙁

40 is chest

S is short

Wear a typical shirt and if your lab coat fits over that without limiting your range of motion you should be good. Note: I know nothing about lab coats specifically although I've been in a position to wear one before, but I know about uniforms.
