Who Else Feels Great

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Had to calculate my cumulative gpa the other day (transfer credits didn't calculate into current transcripts.) After a pretty bad semester I was pleased to be sitting at a 3.57. Still a long road ahead but I'm excited to get started with school again! :)

Finished moving and am now able to function in my apartment. I can't begin to say how glad I am to be back in Florida, even with it being 95 degrees and 95% humidity out.

Just found out I can use a scholarship I earned 10 years ago for my non-degree-seeking status at post bacc. :soexcited::clap::claps::banana:

Too happy. Way too happy.

Finished summer organic 2, and totally nailed it. Strange feeling to not have to be ready for a test on Monday. Taking a short vacation next week, then time for MCAT prep for January!

Well I am feeling a lot better now than I had been for a while. I had delayed the start of third year, to give myself more time to study for the Step exam. Was alternating between worrying I didn't do well even with all the studying, to being depressed that I didn't start my rotations at the same time as most of the rest of my class. Just got my score today, and I received a score around where I had expected/hoped it would be, that is decent for the specialty I am most interested in right now. Glad to not have to worry about Step 1 anymore, and can now focus on doing well on rotations.

I've finally transferred from CC, having taken some intro science and A&P classes just to make sure of my path. Currently at State U with a bunch of twentysomethings and it feels great!

Bumping this thread - took my first Orgo exam and I think I did well. I put a lot of effort into studying and doing practice problems and it is one of the first tests where I can say I earnestly worked hard for it. Regardless of the grade, I'm proud that I was consistent and diligent.

It's FRIDAY!!!!

'Nuff said.

And I'm actually off tomorrow, yeah! Working again on Sunday, then off for four days, oh yes! Well, technically, classes on 2/4 of those days, but I still count those as days off. :D

Also, floated to Trauma today. Thought I'd hate it, but I actually had fun. Then I got pulled back to my unit to take care of the sweetest old lady on earth who remembered me from when I admitted her. A lot of bad outcomes too, as always, but, overall, it was a decent enough day that I actually stayed over to help out instead of hightailing it out of there like I normally would.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure I made a new friend today. :)

Got an awesome email from medical director number two on my performance on the completion of project number two. She cc'd my supervisor again. My supervisor said the director is someone with very high standards and not someone who gives empty praise.

So between the two directors that I work under, both think I'm doing a great job and have excellent attention to detail along with good problem solving and critical thinking skills. One said I have excellent writing skills, the other has said she wished she could clone me because it would make her life so much easier and she still wants me to try and publish a paper on my first project.

I think this bodes well for future rec. letters, no?

:shy:

Also, found out I most likely have enough experience and qualifications to sit for the board exam to be certified as a Specialist in Chemistry. (clinical chemistry)

Think this thread needs a bump and I've got just the reason.

Found out from my mom at the end of October that a memorial trust in my hometown is giving out scholarships to people who went to high school there and have a good GPA and they have some for graduate school, too.

Oh and of course, I find out about it the night before I need to overnight mail it so it gets there by the deadline.

I scramble to get everything together, head to the post office on my lunch break and they tell me they can't guarantee overnight to my little hometown. Get it sent and....wait.

Didn't hear back, figured I didn't get it.

Then tonight I get a letter from some lawyers and I'm thinking, "great, what the heck is this about"

It was the scholarship administrators! I got a $5,000 scholarship for spring semester!! :soexcited:

Work will cover my summer tuition so all I have to worry about is books and fees, and I should be finished in Aug.

Got accepted to one of my top choice schools!

Have a second job I am using solely to pay off CC debt before starting school
Have an amazing boyfriend that is proposing in ~2 weeks and is moving with me to med school
Increased my deadlift AND squat max last week! (205, 195)
Volunteering with the elderly and making priceless friendships
Spending as much time as possible with friends and family before the move

I have been planning this whole med school thing for a few years now but I've kept it hidden from my family. I wanted it to be my decision and mine alone, and after having a less than stellar start to school, I figured my family would think that I was crazy. I had built it up in my head that my dad especially, wouldn't understand and I'd be judged or something. Now I'm at the point where I'm starting prereqs and I'm not going to be able to keep it hidden, I finally got up the nerve to tell my dad and he is so happy for me. Such a relief!

I've been stressed lately so thought I would post here about the positive things going for me in my life:

-I have a full-time job which provides great benefits to their employers, including health insurance as I turn 26 in April and will be going off of my family's plan come then, grateful for that.
-I am super close to paying off my car loan and am glad to say that it will be paid off after this year.
-I took the MCAT for the first time yesterday and am glad to have it done with. Even if my score is not where I want it to be, I know now what I should focus more on for the new 2015 MCAT.
-I have supportive friends and family that I have no idea what I would do without.
-I'm excited for things to slow down at my work come February when I can start having three day weekends and become more involved with volunteering, including volunteering at a hospice as I know the experience will be incredible.

Happy for my day off today. Will continue tomorrow ;)

Grades just posted. Officially a 4.0 semester. :D

This was just the confidence booster I needed. I've been so anxious about how hard full-time work with fifteen credits has been, but, apparently, it's doable! I've got one (school) week off before summer semester starts. Doing Gen Chem II and Orgo I while staying FT at work. This is going to be a beast, but I'm ready for it now.

I don't know if I'll wind up going to med school forsure (my ECs aren't the best...just filled out more volunteer apps), but I was just looking at my transcript and thinking how crazy it is that I'm here with only 3 prereqs left (would be two if it weren't for the new MCAT with its biochemistry). I had a lot of doubts that I could even make it to this point, and somehow I'm still standing after knocking out a semester of the dreaded organic (with a 4.0 BCPM, no less). Don't think a single person ever saw me here during my lib arts major days. :p

It was a close one this semester but I came out with a 4.0 for my three graduate courses this semester. It was kinda brutal this semester with commuting for school and working 45+ hours a week and I really thought my public health law class was going to drop me a bit, but I somehow killed the four hour final.

And in even better news, NO more 2 hour one way commutes up to the school on a regular basis. :soexcited:

Been a long five years of that crap.

My class this summer is online and my masters project should be doable from home for the most part. Then I'll be done!!

This needs bumping again.

A little delayed but I finished my last required course for my master's degree this summer only have my project left. This means no class or commuting this semester :soexcited:

I got accepted for a short term gig reviewing grants for HIV/AIDS project funding.

The clinical trial at work is moving forward and I get to work on it beyond my usual role as a second "field experience."

Thing I'm not sure about- just emailed an ID doc from school to see if I can do my master's project with him.

Done! Read, reviewed, scored, and commented all five 45-50 page grant proposals.

Whew!

I'm hiding from a massive dragonfly that followed me in the door and for sure has a coke problem. So I don't feel great, but wanted to say congrats on your thing!

Last midterm out of the way. Only finals left for my first quarter at a legit respectable university. So far, so good!

Just had a great meeting with some folks at work. I get to do the bulk of the work, data analysis, write up on the clinical research project we're doing. Very happy about it.

Physics prof is taking forever to upload grades, but I needed a 63 on the final to make an A, so unless if I majorly screwed up, I finished my post bacc with a 4.0 BCPM GPA! There were so many times I didn't think I could even make it through the classes. Still a long road ahead, of course. MCAT in 4 months.
