Does anyone have me beat? Anyone have better than a 35 with a 3.75 and 0 acceptances after 8 interviews?? I think I am going to call up the world record people and submit myself for their 2004 edition book.

having a bad day, geldrop? 🙁
waitlists will start moving soon... i'm hoping!

Well I was pretty annoyed at getting two rejections yesterday, but now I just find it amusing. I can't wait to tell my grandkids about this someday.

Now I think I have a new goal, i wish to be a medical school dean. I wish to change the rediculous nature of medical school admissions into something sensicle and quantitative what scientists should use to make decisions.

Its hilarious how all these PhDs sit in a room with a big coffee table and out goes all sense of logic.

37 mcat with a 3.73 gpa. interviewed at four places and waitlisted at two. however, i applied really late (try november)

I don't have you beat because I do have one acceptance, but I also have 9 waitlists out of 12 interviews...i've gotten to the point that I was laughing by the time I got my last decision. Obviously I can't complain, but the acceptance is at a school I'm completely unpsyched to attend even though it is considered to be a decent school. In all honesty, this whole process has completely shaken my confidence and has left me with a terribly sour impression of the entire profession.

My point is that this process is completely random. Try not to let it get to you too much, as hard as that may be. While I truly believe that med schools are trying to find the smartest, most compassionate people to attend their schools, somewhere in their methods they are failing and they end up taking the biggest gunner's instead because they look the best on paper. I'm sure you are a great candidate and will make a great doctor!

just out of curiosity why did u apply so late? i mean even if u waited till august scores come out, thats 2nd week of Oct.
Wow, i couldnt imagine if i got a 37mcat and didnt get in, i'd personally go to each schl and tell them my mind 😛

With eight interviews, you can see that your grades and MCAT are stellar enough to get eight interviews. But, without taking this the wrong way, why do you want to become an MD? Is it for yourself or someone else? Do you come across as cocky? What about experience, do you have any?

All of this is meant to come out in your interview. Sometimes there is a underlying thing that you put across that adcoms dont like. I suggest you call your interviewers from the schools that rejected you.

Also, dont make eight interviews sound so bad. I got three and I am proud of getting them.

Just my 2 cents.

well as its been said a thousand times, stats aint everything. it helps to have a personality.

awwww... be nice... show geldrop some love...

I'm sorry to hear geldrop... hang in there

Maybe the adcoms read all of geldrops' post in the lounge, about panties and dating, and figured he just wants to become a doctor to get some ass.😀

I have the same sentiments as Merlin. 14 interviews: 1 acceptance, 3 post-interview rejections, 2 I haven't heard from post-interview (its been since late Oct. and late Jan. since I interviewed), and 8 waitlists. I've spent so much time, energy, and money that it is kind of frustrating that schools invite you to interview and then decide that you aren't their first choice.

Obviously AdComs look at more than stats. I'd think about what so many schools didn't like about you. But it could be random. I have a friend who has a 36 MCAT but at least a 3.8 GPA from William and Mary, is a Virginia resident, and didn't get in to UVA. I had lower MCAT and GPA, went to the same school, but here I am a 2nd year at UVA. Of course, I don't know what they wouldn't have liked about him, he's not particularly arrogant or anything (almost all premeds are to some degree).

I know you meant this as a joke but do you guys think adcom members do actually read these posts and find out the true identities of the posters?

yeah... sometimes.

No way... do adcoms really browse the forums?! Besides how can one tell another's true identity?

Hey geldrop, I'm sorry about your situation. Which WLs are you on? Did you apply to a wide spectrum of schools?

And to those with at least one acceptance, don't begrudge it because many others would absolutely KILL to have your spot. I'm not saying you should worship adcoms for it, just count your blessings. Which schools are they that you would rather not attend? Bottom line is you're going to be a doctor!

cheers,

I have actually been told by admissions staff that they do look at the forums and Interview Feedback. I don't think they would go as far as trying to find out who someone is, but who knows??? They probably just like to see what kind of stuff is being said about their school.

if it were ever discovered that SDN was disclosing our identities to adcoms, they'de be in for some serious problems. anyway, that whole angle is silly, i'm sure we can trust SDN.

SDN I am sure does not disclose our real names to adcoms. however it is relatively easy to tell, or at least guess, from some posts, who the members actually are.

i have also heard from a reputable source that adcoms do check these boards from time to time.

geldrop,

I have seen you post many times, complaining about the process and asking how can anyone reject your stats. Well, if I have learned anything since I joined SDN, its that stats aren't everything. You keep saying that you've had "good interview after good interview", but have you ever asked the admissions office WHY you were rejected. YOU may think the interview went well--but obviously the adcoms haven't. An old explanation of insanity says "Insanity is doing something over and over again in the same fashion and expecting a different result."

From what I've put together there is a Upenn med student who post on this board who is on the adcom there. He post with UCLA in his name.

I went to the second look at my state medical school. I started talking to the director of family medicine during lunch. He told me that he interviewed a student who was already holding several acceptances at other (probably better) schools. However, the doctor felt that the student had no personality, eg: he lived at home during undergrad, held no jobs whatsoever, and overall, he thought he hasn't "matured" yet, haven't been exposed to the world enough. So he put a big rejection stamp on the guy's application, even though he was overqualified considering the state medschool's avg MCAT and GPA. So stat isn't everything. Also, the director also looked down on BA/MD people, he thought they haven't been challenged enough, which I thought was funny. Because I was always envious of people who get guaranteed admission and no stress in undergrad, and skipped wasting $$ on MCAT and applications. life is soooooo ironic!
