Well, you got farther than I did with Meharry so either way, congrats. YOu can look up the ethnic stats online for each school. It is true that probably over 85% of Howard and Meharry's class are blacks.

what? waitlisted because of being asian?

i don't want to get waitlisted. i'd rather have a direct answer. waiting sucks.

Yeah, I say reject me or accept me - I can't take the wait any longer!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, im sure with all your interviews youll have a few dec 1st acceptances.

Oh, and I'm sure I'll get waitlisted... I hear they only accept people with outstanding numbers Dec 1st.

The way I imagine it is that the same couple hundred people will get accepted at every school they interviewed at. It will eventually boil down to us with average/slightly above average stats.

everyone is afraid.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Everyone on SDN will be afraid until Nov 30/December 1st. Do you guys think that AADSAS will update at 12 AM on November 30th since December 1st is a Sat?

the only reason i said that is because majority is AA and the rest is others... so my chances are slim, dont you think?it just seems they might fill their class with AA (obviously because they are geared towards them, so it makes a whole lotta sense), who knows if this year 95% of their class is AA....so the probability is low. Iam debating if I should even bother going to the interview.

i don't think you're going to be waitlisted b/c your asian...that's just dumb...stay positive
Doesn't sound so dumb to me. Meharry's mission statement says their goal is care to underserved communities and opportunities for people of color (unless you have a disadvantaged background). I'd assume they're wary of the bulk of dental applicants (asian and white) that have no interest in working in the underserved communities (poor and urban) they're talking about.

If you're going to quote Meharry's Mission then quote the whole thing because It's obvious that you did not read it correctly....

"Meharry Medical College exists to improve the health and health care of minority and underserved communities by offering excellent education and training programs in the health sciences; placing special emphasis on providing opportunities to people of color and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, regardless of race or ethnicity; delivering high quality health services; and conducting research that foster the elimination of health disparities."

Like I stated in another forum, Meharry does not only accept African Americans and minorities. Meharry is dedicated to serving the underserved and that is not always in poor or urban areas. You really need to check your definition of underserved because there are several areas in the US that have one dentist for every 15,000 people and are not poor or urban.

Doctor2012,
If you had your interview, hope it went well. If you haven't, you should come to you interview because not everyone get's an interview!!! Just because you are asian does not increase or decrease your chances of getting into Meharry. Good luck!!!

Sir, the way that reads to me is there are 2 types of candidates Meharry looks for, 1. People of color & 2. Those from disadvantaged backgrounds, regardless of race or ethnicity. How can you say emphasis is on people of color and at the same time race is irrelevant? So if you're not of color, you better be from a disadvantaged background. My point to the OP was that being Asian can hurt you because now you have to meet a more narrow requirement. I didn't say Meharry only accepts African Americans and minorities. In fact I applied there too and I'm about as colorful as a white towel. No disrespect meant to your school.
The comment about underserved areas being poor or urban was my assumption.

an inherent contradiction built-in, I'm afraid. a preference for "ppl of color...regardless of race"

would you qualify this? examples, perhaps. I'd like to know what cities are rich and underserved, because I'd someday would like to work there.

and to the OP, i'd imagine you're there at the school as a political acceptance. the school would accept all blacks if they had the chance, but it's too legally compromising. so they accept a few non-blacks.

I'd predict that you'd have a greater chance of getting in if your gpa/dat were close to the school's avg. let's face it...the school won't have some white guy with a 24AA walk around amongst blacks with a 17 avg. that just destroys their own self-conception. to be safe, I predict that all non-blacks would have the same numbers as the avg.

i feel worried because i dont have interviews until january... so i missed the first batch of acceptances that go out dec 1 :scared:

well, don't worry just yet. last cycle, columbia had an entire 7/75 seats open after Dec 1st.

That's not a contradiction to me. They said that they place "special emphasis on providing opportunities to people of color and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, regardless of race or ethnicity". Its all about reading comprehension. I think the part about race or ethnicity was specifically in regards to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Dentstd,
I gave you the definition of underserved... look for the cities yourself. A 17 average means...... My point exactly.

SanOno,
It's Ms.... Seems you have a problem with comprehension too. You applied to Meharry and what you didn't get accepted? Or you got accepted and chose not to go?

These are rhetorical questions so no need to reply because I'm done with this!!! Hope you guys have a blessed day!!!

im more afraid of being rejected then waitlisted....arrogant people!

That's not a lot though. I'm worried but, still, waitlisted is better than rejected. Well, waitlisted and then accepted is better than rejected but waitlisted and then rejected is worse.

Doctor2012,
For the Love of God, please attend your interview. Every time I get an interview email or letter I get so excited I almost start humping things. Count your blessings, and GO!

Sorry this is probably a stupid question: On Nov 30 or Dec 1st, if I don't get an acceptance and I don't hear anything back that I am waitlisted should I assume I have been rejected? Or will they send out a rejection?
