Anybody recommend takin' Biochem or Anatomy or both before next fall if I've never had either???

what do u think of this situation?😕 😕 😕 😕 😕 😕

As someone who didn't take either before med school, I would recommend taking both. However, only if this does not overload your current coursework or interfere with your summer. This will be your last free summer, so stay away from the books.

Funny, I was just talking about this with my brother last night. he said that he never had anatomy, and he still was able to pass....obviously not with flying colors, but all I was aiming for was to be able to pass anatomy.

Maybe I will take it over the summer? I don't know. I will have to start signing up for this over Xmas break and register if I am going to get into these classes.

everyone I have talked to has said that I should definitely take anatomy, since I haven't had it. Isn't it the craziest thing out of this whole process that Anatomy isn't a pre-med requirement? I think that needs to be changed, since it is usually the heaviest focus in your first years. anyway, my major is in Biochemistry, but I haven't taken it in about 2 years, so I am going to sit in on BCM II next semester, my prof said it would be cool. everyone has told me that if you are knowledgeable on these subjects, your first year will go by much easier, and you will be able to devote a lot more time to other subjects, etc.

The reason anatomy isn't a requirement is that not all colleges/universities have a human anatomy course due to the high cost. (knowledgable professor, lab techs, cadavers, special lab) My undergrad university did not offer a human anatomy course, only comparative anatomy. Therefore, thousands of students would be ineligible to attend medical school.

You do not have to have anatomy or biochem if you want to have to bust your butt and study that much harder 1st yr. Me? I would personally rather take the extra time and spend it studying other things, playing w/ my kids, etc. I recommend taking ANY class you think might remotely help you in med school. I took anatomy, physiology, microbiology, medical microbiology, pathophysiology, biochem and histology for electives. Great classes, my only regret is I didn't get to take embryo (my school quit offering it) or immunology (no time). I feel like I learned alot, and first year will hopefully feel like partial review as my biochem professor in particular, prided himself on presenting a biochem course "of med. school rigor". Not redundant, since there is the potential for quite a bit more detail, however, anything that can make it easier, I'm all for. However, keep in mind that biochem is potentially one of the hardest undergrad classes you will take, so make sure you have the time to devote to it.

Take intro to human anatomy, no need to take the entire course. You just need to familiarize yourself with the process of thinking in and memorizing three dementional detail. As I have said before, it is a course like no other which requires a completely different approach to master.

Biochem is a good idea but it isn't worth your time. It really isn't that different from any other course in terms of study.
