Who's expecting an Oct 15th notification?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Im not expecting one, but I sure am praying for one from my hometown school. 😍 😍

for those who interviewed at baylor, when should be expect to hear from them? they said "within the next couple of weeks" - so does that mean Oct. 15?😉

In previous years Baylor called people on Oct. 15. We can only hope some of us SDNers are lucky enough to be called on that day. 🙂

I have begun my religious devotion to the Hindu faith again, in light of the impending October 15 (oh my god that's next week)...

back to praying for an acceptance

I've interviewed at 5 schools which have rolling admissions thus far, 3 of which are SUNY (I'm a NY resident). I think I stand a decent shot at all the places I've been, but I'll die if I don't hit at least one out of the 5 😛

i interviewed at case western on 9/26 and the admissions committee met the following monday. they said to expect notification around oct 15. man, i hate waiting.

Interviewed Sept. 11 at u of Chicago, Tulane on the 18th, U Washington on the 2nd....ahhhh, let the waiting game begin!!!

🙂

Ya, I'm going by the logic that out of 5 schools that I'm waiting to hear from on Oct 15, I should ideally get one accept... right? If not, I'm going to have a night of tequila anyways

Yeah, the waiting is killing me. A possible 5 schools can notify me on Oct 15th if I am lucky enough to even be accepted at the time.

Gleevec, you seem like one of the strongest applicants on this board, so I'm sure you'll get into one of the schools, not to worry

I'm just hoping to get at least one acceptance from a ranked school so that my life can be a little easier (i.e. I can withdraw from some schools and save time/money/energy)

Thanks for the praise, but I am not nearly so confident in myself.

That said, Sachin, Im sure you will get into at least one if not a couple ranked schools Oct 15th.

I too am looking to save some money as well. And I have been bombing my classes due to a hectic interview schedule.

Speaking of bombing classes, I'm actually wondering how people stay in school while extensively interviewing..

I'm finding it extremely difficult to travel and do my homework, I've been thinking that it might have been better if I applied after graduating (more time to interview, could strengthen my application with another experience, etc.)

ah well no use crying over sour grapes

Well,

I guess that I make at least three of us who are waiting on CWRU for October 15. Frankly, I'm a pile of cold quivering **** right now. I'll be at interviews on the 9th, 13 and 14th. Hopefully these will take my mind off things.

ya, I've been tempted occassionally to ask as my last question "so what do you think are my chances?" in good ol SDN style; but I don't obviously cause that'd result in a bitchslap/rejection

I ought not get my hopes up. While my GPA is a bit higher than CWRU's average, my MCAT is lower than thier average. But I am a CWRU UG and I have a law degree from Columbia.

It could go either way. I live in Cleveland with my wife and son. So, I REALLY want to go to CWRU.

Given my application's strengths and weaknesses, I give myself one chance in two at CWRU.

Well, in contrast to other posters on this thread, I am expecting some rejection letters around the 15th of this month. The mcat scores are up on the 14th and I know that a few schools have a rejection letter already written for me, stamped and everything. All that they are waiting for is to see my scores just in case I pull off a 40 or something. Otherwise, I know that sometime on the week of the 14th, I will be getting rejection letters and I have accepted that. I hope that I get a few interviews with all of those rejections.

Good luck to all.

Yeah in light of these hectic interview schedules, who else is setting themselves up for a 2.0 this semester? Man, if I don't get in this year, reapplying with my newly destroyed GPA is gonna be hella painful.

Cheers and good luck to all the 2004 applicants!

Yeah my GPA is getting annihilated. No one told me that schools would send out invites such that you had to schedule within a set of dates. Of course, I didnt expect that set of dates to result in me not being at school for a single weekend in August, September, or late October.

But yeah, my GPA is dying.

My GPA is definately going to hurt this semester. I've had 6 interviews in four weeks for the past month, so that amounts to missing half of september 😛 At least I don't have any interviews for a month now, but then I end up missing an entire week of school at the end of october when I do my southern sweep (UVA, Wake, Pitt, and hopefully Duke (c'mon Duke 🙂 ) )

Yeah, I'm with you guys - my grades will definetly be suffering this semester. I didn't realize how many schools will only have interviews on wednesdays or thursdays - There's a class that I haven't been to in two weeks, and another one (double period) that i've only been to twice!! It's insane... but who cares once we get in, right? I just better not have to do it again 🙂

i completely empathize with you guys on balacing classes and interviews! i have a midterm tomorrow, and don't have a clue what's going on 🙂

I agree that these interviews are killing my schoolwork. I have a midterm on wednesday, which is the day I am interviewing at Penn State. Now I have to take the midterm that wednesday night. Thats after leaving my house at 4am to get to penn state and driving back home in the same day. I can't even go up to Hershey the day before because I have another midterm on tuesday night. This is hell.

In a way, I envy you guys in school. I need something to distract me from the "Will I get in? Will I get in?" Mobius strip in my head!!!😱

Hopin' to hear from my #1 school!!! 😍

Theresa

I really hope I hear from Penn State on or around the 15th. I've heard conflicting information about the earliest time they would let us know, but since I interviewed on 9/23, I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect notification on the 15th. It would really be awesome if I got accepted on the 17th, which is my 21st birthday! Now that's something to celebrate!

I took extra care to schedule my interviews either on weeks when I didn't have exams or during breaks. We get a fall break (Fri. night - Tues. night) next week, and my Drexel interview is on that Monday, for example. Also, I try to schedule my interviews on Mondays so I can leave Sunday night. Since most of my classes happen to be on T/Th this semester, I only miss one class, my office hours, and a class that I'm TAing...as opposed to 3 classes missed on Tuesday or Thursday

But while the GPA should survive interview season (*vigorously knocking on wood*), the sleep schedule hasn't been so lucky...

Does anyone know about George Washington and when they send out letters? I interviewed there in late Sept and I'm not sure when to expect anything.

As for all of you students....good luck with studying/travelling for interviews! You guys have my respect!

GO RED SOX!!!!!

hey Pianogril,

My B-day is also the 17th of October. I had the same sort of thoughts you did. I'm expecting news from two schools. Could be the worst or best birthday ever.

judd

im hoping for vandy and wake forest on the 15th...anyone else in that boat?

hopin for some love from my #1, michigan...........

greenie8 -

I interviewed at GW in early September and was told that notifications would be sent for our interview group on October 15. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I hate waiting! The three schools I have been interviewed by said they would let me know on the 15th. My wife and I are expecting our second child on the 20th, so I hope that there will be added celebration this month with an acceptance. I hope CWRU comes through for you Juddson I know how that feels my wife is from Cincinnati and I hope that they let me in so we can have that family support while I am in school. Good luck to all.

last year michigan sent out acceptances via email on 10/15 at 12:01am. if you're a strong applicant and they really like you and you've interviewed already, you'll get this. some people got their acceptance after having interviewed like a week and a half prior. but if you don't get it then, they pull people in from the waitlist and accept people all the way up until late july. 😀 good luck everyone!

Hey PianoGirl04 (and anyone else who knows about scheduling interviews),

You said you schedule most of your interviews on Monday so you don't miss your Tu/Th classes. Do interview days let out early enough to catch a flight on Monday night, or do you live close to your interviews? I have all my classes Tuesday and Thursday and need advice on how to schedule interviews so I don't miss classes! I live on the west coast and most of my interviews will be on the east coast, and I just don't know if I can interview Monday and make it back by Tuesday morning.

you guys should be glad that you have gotten such early interviews. I've completed 90% of my secondary apps and they're all on file ready since mid-to late august...and i still haven't heard from any amcas school :-/ you guys should be thankful that you have such early interviews, it shows you are all excellent timely candidates who are very dilligent and will be good and successful doctors.

don't stress too much about not hearing on oct 15 or not, you guys have interviewed early, that's always a good thing, let the struggle from the mind ease off a bit and just take things as they come...stepping stones...no need for pressuring and adding uneeded stress on your minds...

sigh...w/oct 15 around the corner i'm prayin for a baylor acceptance....the wait is absolutely killing me...🙁 (not to mention trying to keep up w/school when i'm not there 50% of the time...)

Well, the 2 interviews I've done have been close to my house, but as for the ones coming up, yes, I'm flying back on Monday nights. Usually the school will tell you when the interview ends and how long it will take to get to the airport. Interview days usually end between 3 and 5 PM. For example, the interview day at Wash U ends at 3, and it takes 30-60 minutes to get to the airport, so I scheduled my flight for 5:30. All of my scheduled interviews are on the east coast except Wash U, and I've been able to drive to the 2 that I've been to so far. But it only takes 4-5 hours to fly across the country, and when you take into account the time difference, you'll probably be able to make it back to the west and still get to sleep at a decent hour. The only catch is that flights will be expensive, since you have to choose one within a set time frame. Just try to buy your tix as early as possible, and check all of the sites like Orbitz and Expedia for the best deals. You might want to think about scheduling an interview on a Friday if you're worried about missing classes. You could fly out Thursday after classes and not have to worry about getting back in time for the next day of classes. At any rate, good luck!

Southwest flies everywhere and usually has one flight around 7pm or after that you can take after an interview. Its definitely possible, and maybe should be recommended, to leave after your interview. You can bring your suitcase with you and leave it at the admissions office.

Waiting for Vandy, Pritzker, and Jefferson around Oct 15th...

Their decision will affect whether I'll submit my secondary to Loma Linda and whether I'll still goto my MCW interview...

It's probably fine if two of them are waitlist or rejection, as long as the first school I hear back is an acceptance 😀

im hoping for oct 15th notification so i can cancel some interviews as well

hey premed2,
i loved emory, its definitely worth the trip. once you get to the airport, take MARTA north to Linberg station. thats the best place to take a taxi from or meet at student host. i stayed with a student, it was great. the 3x3 interview isnt bad at all. the campus is really nice. definitely give it a look over, im sure yall enjoy it.

Sweet!!! Oh please please please please please...

Must... not... think... about... next week. I need to focus on other stuff (i.e. my two midterms this week), but I've can't shake the foreboding feeling of a Judgement Day quickly approaching. I can see it now: the four horsemen carrying multiple rejection letters right to my doorstep. 🙁

Argh.. there I go hallucinating again. I need to reclude from sdn for a few days, it's making me neurotic as hell! Ah well, hopefully a thrashing by my Game Theory exam will crash me back to reality. 😀

Good luck everyone!!

Trying to keep his sanity,

deez

On the topic of October 15 notifications, can we expect rejections to start flowing in that day too? I know some people (including myself) have received some rejections, but they seem to be just trickling in, the same way a few acceptances seem to be squeezing through. Does October 15 open the floodgates for the thin envelopes as well as the thick ones?

i'm desperately waiting to hear from one of the SUNY's (all the other schools I interviewed at won't let me know for a while yet). hopefully then i can cancel some other interviews and save some money....and finally start going to class and doing some homework

but, anyone know when the SUNY's start sending out acceptances/rejections, in particular downstate and stony...

i'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.....hopefully at least one school will want each one of us this early on. i'm sure u'll don't have much to worry about, everyone seems to be a really strong candidate

how about this - i have an interview on 10/15. what if i feel my cell phone vibrating?! it's gonna kill me not to be able to answer it! anyone else going to be in this predicament?

Just turn it off, check your messages later. If it does go off, it might interupt the flow of the interview you're in as you take 3 seconds to consider what that phone call might entail. 😛 😛 😛
