Did all the dental schools get together and decided that they will torture applicants by not sending out acceptances until Dec 1st? Cause it sho as heck workin on me. Is there a good, GOOD reason why we have to wait til dec 1st? I think there should be an "early decision" program for Dental school because I know there are others out there including myself who already know where they wanna go.

Oh my oh my. Im on pins and needles.

All the dental schools have an agreement to have a set date in order to give the schools an equal opportunity to try to woo successful applicants into accepting their offers (aka 1st acceptance deposit).

FOr people who have early interviews, the dec. 1 date helps them out. Every dental school starts interviews as a different point, and evne then, you could have interviews at several school spaced a month apart.

If you interviewed at Case on Sept. 19th, and got accepted from them on Sept. 23rd, you would have only a few weeks to respond to the acceptance with a yes or no. If you said yes, then you owe Case "holding" money, like $500.00. But if you also had interviews at UCSF on Oct. 29th, and UPENN on Nov. 15th, and Case was your third choice, you might be wasting you money to hold Case.

basically, by waiting until Dec. 1st, it gives a bunch of people the benefit of not having to send out non-refundable "hold" checks to a bunch of schools and then get screwed when another school they like more accepts them a week later.

So I guess it's not only time to hear the good news, but can also be the bad news...?

no, most schools send out rejection letters as soon as they decide to reject you. i dont think any wait to send out rejections until dec. 1st...normally if you get rejected i think you find out earlier. so, no news is good news while waiting for dec. 1st. however, some adcoms dont meet until real close to december 1st to decide, in which case youd get your rejection around that date. all schools are different.

so if you interview real close to Dec 1st, say the end of November, will you still hear from them in December?

Do almost all schools have their first acceptance rounds determined by Dec 1st?

The closest I saw in Predents.com was someone who interviewed on Nov. 27 last year and was accepted on Dec. 1st.

But I also saw things like Interviewed Dec. 5 and accepted Dec. 8...so I think after Dec. 1st, schools start sending out acceptances or rejections pretty quick after an interview.

And most schools have their first group of acceptances ready by Dec. 1st....I think there are a couple schools who wait til Jan 1st for some reason.

i had 3 interviews in mid-nov (between the 11th and 19th) and i heard from all 3 on dec. 2nd.
