Why do people with MDS and years of experience apply for DMD/DDS?

I was just thinking- why do people with MDS and years of experience apply for DMD/DDS? Is it worth financially after paying over 200k$ for a DDS/DMD? Are the years spent studying MDS a waste ?

Dentistry is a well respected profession in America. Not to mention the pay is much better.
