I read this:
http://www.thelancetstudent.com/2008/05/09/sojourn-through-india/

And started thinking that people have different reasons for going into medicine: parents guide them, money, helping others, prestige, etc.

But there a lot of other fields through which all these can be accomplished, maybe even more easily.

So what's your reason?
And, what's all the buzz about global health and social justice?

So if I went into medicine to freestyle rap would I just pick all of them?

ma fault...sometimes my ghetto speak comes out. However, I should haved added an "other/freestyle rap" category for those so inclined.

Actually, the main reason I want to go into medicine is because it looks like a job that I would enjoy a LOT. I don't care about the money really (although it is a nice side benefit) but I'm so sick of jobs I despise. I want a job that I will enjoy enough that it doesn't seem like work anymore.

how about a passion for medicine, science, wanting to know how the human body works and applying those notions to fight diseases?

Agreed hard to capture every option in the poll. Slightly skewed based on options but interesting to see that helping people and income are 1 and 2.

what about: The work would be stimulating/fun?

That would be a job in the adult entertainment business

You'd think medical school is competitive, but try busting into the porn industry when you have gonorrhea.

Life is rough, they judge my STD and ignore my flaming personality!

Cuz that's what the porn industry is looking for, a flaming PERSONALITY

Anyone doing medicine for the free drugs?
