I have been thinking about UNLV lately trying to figure that place out. A lot of people really want to go there and I am trying to understand why, maybe you'all can help me understand.
As far as I saw here are some pros and cons:
1. UNLV was a newer school, it had some really nice facilities!
2. I like the whole DVD on book idea so that you use your laptop and a book bag rather than 3000 lbs of books.
3. New classrooms with integrated technology, NICE! I learn better in environments like that. Powerpoints and lecture slide given to you! Awesome!
4. It was cool that they try to get you into Spanish. Although when I interviewed I brought that up and my interviewer said that the Spanish program was basically a failure and a waste of time ... ok?!!?
5. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Vegas is warm 24/7 a year! Especially compared to Idaho! There is plenty to do there, nice places to eat, entertainment, and I suppose plenty of trouble if you want it. It seems to me that this is a major reason for the ppl who go there.
6. Were the students happy/unhappy? I didn't really get a feel for that at all.
7. Take it for what its worth but a studdy buddy of mine's brother is doing a GPR and has gotten in good with the Director there and the director has brought in a few grads from UNLV and has complained about their competance as a dentist and their performance. I know that it really depends on the individual but he said their education seemed to be not quite up to par.
8. The Dean of the school left for Pacific, and several faculty left. I know there is always turnover of faculty/teacher but with this being a new school are there some really big struggles and probs in the program that we can't see that could suck?
9. At UNLV you can get in-state tuition after your 1st year and pay what is it $31,000? That sure is nice! I could use more money!
10. Some of the facutly were really cool to work with. Dr. Brownstein, Dr. Ancajas. Really down to earth people! Oh and that financial aid guy was freaking sweet!
11. The class size is fairly small.
12. You stay in the same classroom for your freshman & sophomore years. MEANING that your in that classroom all day basically for you those years.
Anyway why do you guys want UNLV so bad?
