Will admissions hate me for this?

Hi everyone!

Thanks for reading. 🙂
I need some quick advice.

I can graduate this summer if I applied. But I'm hesitant because I am going to take 30 more credits of upper-science courses in Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 to increase my GPAs. If I graduated in summer 2011, classes will cost more afterwards and I will have to go through more paperwork just to take classes at my university.

Here is my question:
Would dental admissions care if I held off my graduation even though I technically can graduate this summer??? This is about my 5th year of undergraduate. If I waited until Spring 2012 to apply for graduation, that will be my 6th year. Will they count this against me??

Any feedback and advice is appreciated!!! THANKS!! 🙂

What is your gpa if you graduate now?

cGPA is around 3.5
sGPA is around 3.3
BCP is around 3.0

These may all be about .01 or .02 lower or higher depending on my next two final exams 🙂

I don't know the answer because this is uncommon. I don't believe they'll give you any problems.... I mean, no dental school has a requirement of how quickly someone finishes their undergrad degree.

To make you feel better, I did 4 years of undergrad and 3 years of post-bacc (7 total) in a matter of 10 year period.

Post bac = pretty much the same thing as not graduating and taking more undergrad classes.

So everyone who does post bac is essentially the same as people who stay behind who finish their degree. As long as you keep a science heavy schedule, I don't see why they would see it as a bad thing.

I'm not sure if your school allows this, but mine did. If you're worried about what other people think (ie, parents) then you can petition to walk in the ceremony but not petition to graduate.

So yeah, you can walk and tell your family you graduated. Then just don't update them. Otherwise, I would advise you to not graduate bc you would be considered a post-bac and would have to pay a shatload more per unit.

Thanks everyone for your responses! 😍

John Durian, that's perfect! I will follow this advice. Sounds most logical to me 🙂 Mom already knows my plans and also told me to hold off graduation 👍

If you don't graduate you will continue to qualify for pell grants (if you do know) but if you have a degree you will not get this money anymore and will have to pay for it all out of your own pocket. That's why I wouldn't graduate.
