So I'm hoping that I am able to apply for this current cycle into dental school, however I'm still missing organic chemistry from my requirements so what I'm planning on doing is taking both semesters of organic in the summer I'm currently taking 1 semester of organic right now in the 4 week summer session which will be done by june 21 first. my second session of organic chemistry starts june 24th and ends july 19th. right after that I'll be studying for the DAT and hoping to take it mid august ( have around 4 weeks to study for it). I'm just wondering if taking the DAT around mid august and still applying for this cycle is a waste of money/time or would it be doable. I'm hoping since I took general chemistry this last fall and spring and since I'm taking organic chemistry right now that I won't be able to study it so rigorously since it will be fresh in my mind.

I'll include my science courses to also show if my stats are competitive enough to make it even if I'm a little late on the cycle.

Calculus 1 B
Calculus 2 -A

Bio 1 -A 3 credits
Bio 2 -A 3 credits

Physics 1 -A 3 credits

Gen Chem 2 A 3 credits
Gen Chem 2 Lab A 1 credit

Hopefully for orgo I will get A's if it comes to worst B's

I'm applying to Buffalo, Stony brook, UMNDJ, NYU, Columbia.

I really don't want to have a gap year if it can be avoided specially since I think I have the credentials to make it, but then again everyone thinks they do feedback would be nice.

Taking the DAT in mid-August is really pushing it. Are those the only schools you're applying to? If so, you must be feeling very confident. I would definitely add some schools, considering you will already have submitted your application by the time you take the DAT, as well as the fact that you could not do as well as you had hoped. Even if I had a 4.33 GPA and several hundreds of hours shadowing/volunteering, I wouldn't consider applying to only five schools, with just one of them being a "safety."

I could apply to more schools just not sure which others ones to consider since tuition matters the most to me.

I'm guessing you're a NY / NJ resident? If tuition matters most, I wouldn't fall back on NYU, one of the most expensive schools. There are plenty of other privates that are cheaper, and can still be used to increase your chances of at least getting in somewhere. I mean, feel free to do what you want, but that is the riskiest school list I've seen so far.

The thing is I won't be sending a committee letter since I Transferred into the school which I'm attending right now and the committee letter process starts the semester before I transferred so I'm not sure which schools don't require letters from the committee and would be fine with letters from my professors instead.

Do you recommend any schools that don't require committee letters and aren't really that challenging to get into other than the ones I've listed. I'm thinking of phoning up to the schools which I'm interested and tell them if I could apply without a committee letter and explain them my situation.

NYU was just a safety.

Forget Columbia unless you can make 22 across the board.

I don't know of any schools that require a committee letter. They prefer it, but I'm fairly certain they all have their own requirements for individual letters (some take any science profs, some require dentist letters, some chem, etc). You can find the individual letter requirements on each school's website. I've also seen a link to an excel file with all of the LoR requirements somewhere on this board.

There are no schools that are "easy" to get into. Privates are typically "easier," but you still shouldn't expect a guaranteed acceptance from any school whose averages you beat. I would definitely suggest adding some privates to that list, as well as any other schools you find affordable (assuming that is your top concern). Just make sure the affordable schools you apply to aren't incredibly OOS-unfriendly.

I guess I could add temple university to the list. I used to check predents.com for tuition prices, but the page dissapeared so I lost my resource for the prices you guys have any input in that matter would help choose and penn dental medicine.
