Hey... This coming Tuesday (July 22) I will be taking my boards. I just finished first year at VCU (as per my signature).

Anyway, just this past semester, we took physiology, microbiology, pathology and histology. It's nice because it is like I studied for the boards all semester. Problem is that I have spent time reviewing this material, going over the decks etc and now I have only 5 days left to review the dental stuff. Dental anatomy was last year and we haven't taken occlusion or oral path yet.

I have heard that the First Aid book has a ton of mistakes in the DA section and this is the book I bought to review the sciences.

Is the material in the DA section really as bad as everyone says as far as inaccuracy or if I use it, will it be suitable in your opinion?

Any suggestions? I don't have long enough to order anything else but I don't want to fail this thing 😉 I want to pass and if I feel I can do better down the road... retake.

Well, in the past couple of hours, I think I have decided to hold off with the NBDE until December. It is better to pay $25 rescheduling fee than to pay $265 to get a better score 😉

I really am not ready in the areas of gross anatomy, dental anatomy or occlusion and since that makes up the bulk of the exam, the deal is sealed. In addition, I wasn't aware how important the old tests were. December it is 😉

Do you recommend Dentessentials?

I have DentEssentials and find that it is very, very heavy. I prefer studying with USMLE Step 1 because it's system based. The key is getting a broad view of the subject and sitting down to take a practice exam to see where you sit. Then, go from there learning the material that you don't have a grasp of. My exam is a week from today... I've been studying for about 3 weeks or so......

Best of luck!
-Hup!

PS- there are DAO mistakes in every review book. I think the problem is that no one can agree on where the HOC is on this tooth vs. that tooth, etc. It is very subjective. However, the review books are 95%+ accurate and provide adequate information to do very well in DAO. Once again, you will find where you are weak when you sit down to take practice exams.
