When my first and last name is googled, disgusting and totally false lies appear. My home address even appears on many pages! I have no idea who is doing it. They post everywhere like a total maniac. I tried to e-mail myspace and google to delete some pages, but then more just pop up later. This sociopath has dedicated their life to defaming me. I want to cry. I've done nothing to deserve this. I'm basically a semi-hermit with huge course load.

I am so sick to my stomach from this. It is literally affecting me physically.

My greatest fear is that an adcom will google my name and see what everyone else sees.

What do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure if you report it to authorities, they could investigate on it and find the culprit that is doing this.

Does your phone number and a bunch of online scams show up? Do you hang out online alot? I'd say most adcoms don't search the internet as much as you think they do, and most moderators won't tolerate such action as soon as there's a viable connection between yourself and the other person. My suggestion is to tread lightly.

I doubt adcoms actually google-search you. They realize there can be false information on the internet and they wouldn't risk rejecting you based on it and losing a good candidate. I guess it depends on how serious it is though. What is this person saying about you?

Once you are accepted they will do an official criminal back ground check. If there is nothing, you don't have to worry.

I hope you get this resolve too. I know that at my workplace, they do a check online and read your blog to find out what kind of person you are before hiring you.

They are lies of a sexual nature. No matter how wonderful my blog is, an employer or adcom will immediately see what this sociopathic maniac has written in my name.

If I'm ever an adcom or have hiring responsibilities I will never factor in what I see on the internet unless it is positive. People just don't realize how devastating online defamation is.

Do you know how simple it is to post anonymously ?

This can happen to any of you and I pray it doesn't. Its just to easy to get away with.

The worst part is my stalker defames me in a disturbingly realistic way. His posts don't appear as rants at all. I can't tell you just how much I want to reach out and... 😡

I have no power to stop this subhuman who makes his life's mission to defame me. I feel like I've been raped.

I cringe thinking about how many of my friends and acquaintances has googled me. Its like that presumed innocent deal. Once they accuse you, its game over, no matter how innocent you are.

If this is for real, if you aren't playing us... This harassment can be considered a threat and you should look into contacting police or the FBI.

I've done hiring and interviewing and I can tell you I've used every method at our disposal to find information on a candidate (myspace, google, facebook, blog, etc...)

I can't speak for adcoms in p-school, but I don't think it will make a huge dent as there are so many candidates and that information online can be of questionable nature. But if they can see your facebook and confirm that it's you, it can produce a halo effect, especially if there are younger tech savvy students on the adcom that have the time to look it up.

There are services that can help take these google hits down or reduce their effectiveness. One service that comes to mind is http://www.reputationdefender.com/ but be prepared to spend a pretty penny.

Anyone that may be working HR or admissions in the future, please look deep into your heart and think "that could be me". Analyze what you see very carefully and by all means, call the person in question to hear his side of the story. You may be unknowingly persecuting an innocent person.

But honestly, who would be dumb enough to put their name and address and say "I like this, and do such and such in my spare time". No one! Sorry if this sounds like a rant. I can barely eat or think straight with 20 credits and my crumbling reputation dancing through my head.

A nut can target you at any time. Ironically, in this century, its more likely to be in the aether, rather than in a dimly lit street corner.

That's the scumbag that occasionally creates an account here in order to try to harvest personal statements and conduct other shady business.

I wonder how many different fraudulent activities he is involved in.

I figured it was appropriate for the current discussion. I wonder how much flak the Harvard guy gets from this.

That is exactly what is happening to me! Only substitute mail-fraud with lies of a sexual nature.

My name is splattered everywhere with disgusting innuendo attached.

One day maybe someone with money and power will be victimized and then just maybe lawmakers will take notice. As of now you need several thousand dollars to obtain a court orders and file a civil action. Even then the creep will not get jail time. And the slander will always remain, floating in the aether, being copied and recopied by scraper bots.

I forgot, sometimes you can email the site and ask them to remove it.

can't you just call the cops, and they can hook you up with people who can alleviate the situation. i was talking to my friends about this earlier and they said there are people who can remove that information from the internet.

It might be easier to change your name and not tell that person that you've changed it. You could always change your first name to your middle name and vice versa.

Thankfully, my last name is a common name, but an uncommon last name. When I type my name into Google, I get other people's names 😛.

I just thought of something else. Maybe you could make a "truce" with this person if you know them. They may still have feelings for you or something like that, so they're trying to get revenge by spreading lies. I've had to deal with a few people like that. It's not easy, but if you act cordial, it can work out in your favor.

I'd rather be a psycho's crush than a defamer's enemy.

Along the lines of what PharmDstudent said, if your name is common, people who google your name might not know it was about you. If you just google someone, you will get a lot of different people. I guess it depends on how specific this person is getting.

Changing your name probably won't work because schools and employers ask for previously used names.

They said that it sometimes shows their address, so I don't think that they would believe that it was someone else.

Maybe if you have great grades and a great interview, they will still admit you. People change. Be ready to answer questions if it comes up.
